trans filter or no?

thanks,

gregg

I've changed by auto trans fluid A LOT. But I admit *sheepish cringe* I have never pulled out that filter.:-\

Which is a screen only, no tran filter on the 4EAT prior to 97 I believe.

this is what i am trying to find out: i have read some posts about the screen filter, and also some about an oil filter type (newer car i think). there is a filter and pan gasket available for the year and model car i have but i want to make sure before i buy it.

can i achieve the same results by just changing the fluid?

thanks,

gregg

Its a screen. Unless your tranny pan is leaking, there is no reason to go in there and service it. Subaru does not call out for it to be serviced. The newer trannies have a spin on filter.

Just drain and refill, save yourself the time. Unless, of course, internal damage has occured. If fluid smells burnt, might be worth a check to see if something is going wrong before it blows.
