February 11, 200620 yr When swapping an EJ22 into either an EA81 or an EA82, does either style of EJ motor mount happen to fit better than the other? I want new motor mounts for my swap but don't know if I should buy the liquid filled style or the solid rubber style.
February 11, 200620 yr I think either will fit, but the liquid rubber ones are spendy though, real spendy.
February 12, 200620 yr what? an EJ motor will bolt right up to an EA crossmember with no modification? that's crazy talk, i never new that but i have a couple EJ22's lying around. i wonder what kind of gas mileage the EJ22 is capable of with an EA transmission. i know my impreza gets crap for mileage compared to the older EA vehicles. my 6 cylinder XT6 with gets better mileage than my EJ22, both with AWD auto's.
February 12, 200620 yr Author yeah, you just have to slot the motor mount holes about 1/2" each, outboard. what? an EJ motor will bolt right up to an EA crossmember with no modification? that's crazy talk, i never new that but i have a couple EJ22's lying around. i wonder what kind of gas mileage the EJ22 is capable of with an EA transmission. i know my impreza gets crap for mileage compared to the older EA vehicles. my 6 cylinder XT6 with gets better mileage than my EJ22, both with AWD auto's.
February 12, 200620 yr what he said.....but my EJ22 doesnt seem to move much when its running/revving. either will work. as far as mileage goes....after my 5-lug swap and with the stock EA82 exhaust im getting about 24 highway, and 20-22 city. it helps if you stay out of the throttle, but thats not the reason i got the EJ22 ~Josh~
February 14, 200620 yr yeah, you just have to slot the motor mount holes about 1/2" each, outboard. no you don't! my EJ20 dropped right onto the EA82T cross member. i didn't even think of touching the holes.
February 14, 200620 yr no you don't! my EJ20 dropped right onto the EA82T cross member. i didn't even think of touching the holes. i 2nd that. not a problem. just dropped in. -=Suberdave=-
February 14, 200620 yr Author interesting. I had read first that it is necessary with an EA81 vehicle, and then I read that the same is necessary for an EA82 vehicle. But you guys are working with EJ20s, not EJ22s. There might be a difference between the two motors.
February 14, 200620 yr the car i removed the EJ20 from, was a Legacy Turbo, and back in time had the ej22. No modding was needed in that swap
February 14, 200620 yr Author Interesting. Well, I have a 5-lug swap on my wagon, and I am not happy with the alignment of one of the control arm bushings (relative to the holes after I enlarged them), so I will be grabbing another crossmember from the JY by this weekend. I will slide it under Brian's extra EJ22 and see how they fit together, at eye level even!
