would putting a transfer case from a better 4 wheel drive system be better (such as nissan or toyota)? we found one on craigslist in austin... they have a corrola and legacy (legacy needs alil work... oil leak, cv boot lil stuff.) for 1000... that way me and my sis can have a car for each of us...

swapping in a tcase takes alot of fabrication, even on a true 4WD older gen soob

 

but, the center diff is viscous, and quite so. so it's pretty hard to have one wheel spinning free (you have to be VERY stuck!) the biggest disadvantage is the lack of lo range. makes it hard to do steep hillclimbs and such. but the added low end torque of the EJ motor makes up for much of that.

 

but yea, they make pretty good wheelers, check out what some other members have been doing with their EJ series cars
