'91 legacy door lock hang up

Recommended Posts

Just got back from lunch, and once again when trying to enter my car, had to go in through the passenger side; damn driver door lock was jammed again! For a while there, if I turned the key first to the right, and then to the left, the door would unlock. Lately though, doesn't matter which way I turn it; the key doesn't budge and neither does the lock. I'm sure it has to do with the convoluted linkage system subaru used in the locking mechanism for the '91 model year. Some of you guys have had to have experienced this problem. Exactly what do I have to fiddle with to rectify this problem? :brow:

if it is a problem with the door lock i would spray some lubricant in the key hole but if its something with the door not letting you in with it unlocked i would lubricate all the parts that the door is in contact with the car. had a problem with my door on my 93 legacy not closing easily and all it needed was some white lithium grease on the little hinge. good luck

There's a good chance the pins in the tumbler are worn. There's not a lot you can do about that without a locksmith.

yeah that's pretty likely since that lock (drivers door) gets used the most, but it could also be a poorly copied key...and combined with a worn lock=problems.

Mine did the exact same thing you described, after my own long drawnout and very frustrating version of CSI I discoverd that a spring was missing from the lock assembly inside the door. If you look inside the door, down at the latch, there should be a small spring in a horizontal position, very visable, if its not there you've found your problem:banana:. Then just find a replacement, stand on your head to get in in there and all is well:burnout:Hope this helps

It may not be as bad as you think, true the tumbers may be worn but also the key wears as much, the key may open the passenger door because the tumbers are not wore, even through the key is. If you have another key that is not worn try it. If not go to the dealer or locksmith and try to get one.
