Tranny Swap?

Featured Replies

Has anybody put a 5 speed into a EA81 BRAT mostly stock and can you keep the hi\lo range in doing this?

There are several board members who have done the 5 spd swap into an EA81. The d/r is part of the trans, so you'd just need to get a d/r 5 spd to keep it.

its pretty much like this....remove old crap 4 speed....get 5 speed D/R tranny.....hoist tranny into position, bolt to motor, hook up rear driveline if equipped, and recconnect any wiring and speedo cable, and axles of course..and i think that pretty much covers it...

The 4speed has a one piece driveline

The 5speed has a two piece driveline

The depending on your needs the year the 4speed may have better gearing?

ok,so the trouble i ran into when i installed my 5 spd was, tranny mounts, and positioning .the brackets i fabbed for the tunnel/driveline mounts were east to do once i got my head on straight and was dedicated.if you do it yourself take a couple of days.don't try to rush it.bratsrus1 sells a 5 spd kit.i highly suggest you talk to him about it.oh yeah ,one more thing, you will need the 5spd flywheel.there is a write up on it in the usrm also.
