oil light came on

Featured Replies

it is on my 88 dl spfi d/r 193,000mi , oil pressure is good, [ after market gauge] oil level good, new oil + filter , motor sounds the same , it came on then off then on while driving , possibe oil sending unit ? wire is hooked up

That's the oil pressure idiot light switch - probably a bad switch if it went on while driving. As long as you trust your guage change the idiot light switch.... or just ignore it since you have a guage.

ok, where is the switch located at , ? must be close to the light on the dash ,thanks

Jim:

Sometimes that'll flash on when your coolant is low (causing the motor to run hotter than usual).

If your coolant and oil are at the right level, I wouldn't worry too much about the idiot light. Just watch your temp and oil pressure guages. Not sure if a bad switch will trigger an intermitant dummy light flash. I'm thinking the switch is a "go, no-go" device. Either it works, or it doesn't. The broken wire/bad ground is more likely.

good luck, John
