While the 4EAT is off..

Featured Replies

After putting up with an internal bearing whine and leak between the transfer case oil and AT fluid (which I figure caused the bearing to start going out) I'm having the 4EAT pulled and rebuilt.

It in our MY95 Legacy AWD with 145K miles. I figure I'd have them check the rear seal on the engine.

Anything else I should have checked while the transmission is out?

i agree with legacy777, have the rear separator plate and rear main seal replaced. its only like an extra $30-$40, afterall, you are having your tranny rebuilt so $30 isnt a big deal.

EDIT: make sure to get the aluminum separator plate, not the plastic one.

separator plate and rear main seal like already mentioned.

i'd install new hoses and clamps for the ATF lines.

i'd get an aftermarket transmission cooler as well and completely bypass the stock radiator side-tank deal if you want this car for another 100,000 miles. some trans rebuilders install one by default because it's "that good" of an idea to do it. they run $30 plus whatever they'd charge to install.

I like the trans cooler idea. I'll check into it.

If I have an aluminium separator plate should I still replace it?

Also how can I find out if it is plastic or aluminum before I go ahead and order one?

And were is a good source for any of the above mentioned parts?

:confused::confused::confused:

let me recommend subaru OEM for the rear seal. I put in a rear seal from my local parts store and it leaked like a siv. I got it out a second time and used the subaru one non leaks...its only a few bucks more
