Quick answer - EA81 (carbed, this time)

Featured Replies

If an EA81 has an obvious bad HG (oil in the water, white smoke, etc.)... is it possible to run the engine from point-to-point as long as the water is kept full? (This is a short-term answer, not a permanent solution, obviously)

well, you have to keep a real close eye on your temp, if it runs full heat for more than a couple mins, you`ll warp the heads, then the motor is shot. but if you stop every few mins, fill it up, watch your temp, it should be ok for a short ride home.

OK... so I'll be like driving my XT home after I lost a heater core hose. OK... that's easy enough.

You'd be okay driving it, but, if at any point in time, you feel uncomfortable to drive it further, stop and don't risk it. I'd rather pay for a tow bill than to pay for a new engine.

You could always do what we do here in oz..strap 2/ 44 gallon drums to the roof rack,1/ for oil 1/ for water, with hoses connected from them to the engine and drive untill the big tanks are empty...

If you warp the heads, you can just have them milled flat again. And if you are doing a HG anyway, then you may as well have the valves done and the heads milled.
