What type of diff in auto RX?

Featured Replies

I need to know what type of rear diff I would find in a 87 RX Auto.

I want a 3.7 LSD, but I am unsure on what ratio auto RX's have...

Anyone know?

Cheers,

Phiz

if its the same, its not a diff so much has a viscous coupling.

I think?

Easiest way to do it, is to check the label on the rear diff. It will tell you what gear ratio it is, and if its an LSD or not.

I would check it, but for the fact the car is 840KM away from me and the guy could only read the word "oil" on the sticker...

Oh, and I made a mistake.. it's a 85 Auto RX...

there is an auto 89 rx here in town forsale. its been for sale now for almost 3 years. no one wants a turbo subaru here in bozeman... anyway its a 4eat just like my 88 turbo wagon. with a 3.7 gear ratio...

L series turbo automatics that are Australian delivered are most likely quite different to the US specs. Most came with an open rear diff, although I have seen a few with clutch pack LSD's.

Hmm... This is making it hard.

It is a RX sedan, and from what I can see that is the only car you get 3.7 LSD's in Australia from. Although you say the automatics are most likely open... ahh... Maybe I'll have to wait for another donor car before I buy, one I can make sure it has all the parts I need.

Either that or go to the wrecker and spend $$$$ on the diff and brakes. :-\
