'83 EA81 non-turbo:

 

After much procrastination, I've decided to finally replace my water pump. Got a replacement unit and gasket from NAPA.

 

The "...Subaru Alive" book sez to use silicone gasket sealer, but I don't have any laying around. What I DO have is the spray-type "Copper Coat Gasket Compound".

 

Will the copper stuff be OK to use for this application? I have no problem getting the silicone, I'm just looking to save a trip to the parts store:rolleyes: .

best bet would be the silicone IMO. I don't know much about the copper spray though....

I've used RTV many times - both with and without a gaskets. Never had one leak yet. Just don't use too much. 1/8" bead is more than enough.

Dont think Copper spray is gonna give you that water tight seal the gaskets gonna want. Better play it safe and use the silicone.
