October 31, 200322 yr I found some really sweet new engine paint. It's not advertised as such, but says that it's good for up to 500 degrees fehrenheit. I painted my manifold and some of my PCV system components with it. Later on, my block/heads will be clear coated after being cleaned, and my valve covers will be black. I'll go take a good picture of the colors goin on.
October 31, 200322 yr Looks like blood. When iI did my subie engine rebuild. I used the 1000 and 500 degree paint. Painted my block,heads,intake runners, almost everything aluminum. It looks wasy good.
October 31, 200322 yr What did you do to prep the metal? I've found it difficult to really clean an oily metal surface for paint do to the porous nature of metal.... Kurt
November 1, 200322 yr I found that if I glass bead the surface of an object,it seems to hold the paint better. I did that to my heads of my EA71. My block, I just used a few cans of engine dereaser and a wire brush followed by the pressure washer. It took me a couple of hours but the paint is sticking really nicely.
November 1, 200322 yr about four cans of foaming engine degreaser, and pressure washing it four times as well. (foam, wash, let dry... repeat)
November 1, 200322 yr that stuff would look cool on a computer case not that they would ever hit 500 deg but hey who knows as for removing oil i find doing a acetone or methl ethyl ketone wipe down to work great then a brief rub with coarse scotch brite and another wipe to get rid of the "scotch dust"
November 1, 200322 yr Author hehe yeah, it's alot cooler looking in real life. When I get my heads back all cleaned up I might do semi-gloss black or continue with the red. (valve covers are black)
