talk about ignitors, please chime in

Featured Replies

ok, i just want to see if i got this straight.

the distributor sends a signal to the computer, which sends a signal to the ignitor which sends the signal to the coil to ground it momentarily so the disty gets a spark, for the spark plug... right?

so if my ignitor is broken, no spark to coil, right?

the ignitor is the little black thing on the coil bracket right?

if i got it right so far, do spfi and late mpfi motors share the same ignitor as my xt6 engine? im hoping any ea series car that has an optical disty will have the same ignitor.

thanks for any thoughts

yes if the ignitor is bad or not grounded properly it won't allow the coil to spark.

as far as i know all EA82 (87 and up i suppose) and ER27 ignitors are interchangeable.

I've got a bunch, and in a couple weeks, I won't have any more EA-powered soobs

if you want 'em, they're yours

BTW, an electronics catalog that I have shows replacement ignitor ICs (application non-specific) for about $5 each. When I get some time :-\ I plan on pulling one of my ignitors and taking a close look at it. Maybe with a little repackaging we can have replacement ignitors for a reasonable cost.

Might want to hang on to your old, dead ignitors for package reuse...

usualy ignitors that they sell in catalogs are for lighting.

swaped ignitors, and it didnt fix my no spark issue, its not a coil, might be the distributor... sucks

dont forget the resistor under the coil. that one has gotten me a couple of times.

Automotive ignition ignitor. This catalog is one that ETs would use. :)
