hood lift kit

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of putting the gas stays out of a 88 wagon under the hood of my '84 hatch. I hate proping it up!

has anyone tried this?

would be pretty cool!

for the actuation angle and the lift capacity, maybe 3-door hatch struts would be best!

Dude, that would be cool! I f-ing hate that too.:D

OK, I'm being way too enthusiastic about this.:drunk:

That does sound cool though. You think those can hold that up? Might need some stronger ones.

I was thinking about the later model stuff because the stroke is alittle longer, but the rear door is alot heavier then the hood. It should work great! might be hard to close.

would you keep the safety catch on there, or remove it and let the hood come up without getting out of the car!

just dont pull it while driving!!!

Yeah, I guess the hood would be lighter. Sorry.:drunk:

Damn, that would probably work cool. If you do it, post some pics or something.:D

by removing the safty catch and pulling the latch at highspeeds you could use the hood to slow you down like a parachute!

and when it blows out the windshield you will be glad the hood is there to keep your eyes from drying out!

I like the idea, especially if it opens the hood to the full-up position. Maybe try it first at the junk yard to get the bugs worked out?

Wasteland, are you actively working this project? I need to add some lift assist to my Legacy Outback hood since I added some big as$ driving lights that make it all akward to lift. My web search yielded some people selling kits for Miata's and PT Cruisers, but that's it. I may embark on this project over the holiday since I have time off from work. Should be simple enough.

I haven't gotten any farther than picking up some gas struts from the JY. after looking at things I chose the struts out of a '83 hatch and thought I'd mount them on the top of the suspention strut some where. But like I said I haven't done anything but drink beer and look at the engin compartment! keep me posted on progress and I 'll do the same if I get off my lasy duff over the holidays.

Hehe - beatcha! I got gas struts in mine. Work great tho getting the right size nuts is crucial so you dont need a panel job on the bonnet. They are wagon struts BTW. When i get some time i'll snap some shots.
