August 15, 200619 yr I'm considering running the WRX downpipe now I know I need to weld on an 02 bung but besides that what other modifications do I need to do ? I heard something about there being a rubbing issue ? what do I need to grind down/remove to solve that. Thanks guys.
August 17, 200619 yr Removing the heat sheilds and the cat would, I imagine, help the rubbing issue. Might have to pound on the firewall though.
August 18, 200619 yr on mine. i had to twist and lengthen the down pipe, but then again, i ad to make mine a fully custom set up.
August 18, 200619 yr I got an aftermarket Megan Racing 3" bellmouth and had NO rubbing issues. So I think carfreak is right, cat and heat shields are what rubs, not the piping itself.
August 23, 200619 yr Author I got an aftermarket Megan Racing 3" bellmouth and had NO rubbing issues. So I think carfreak is right, cat and heat shields are what rubs, not the piping itself. A friend of a friend just got me a HKS wrx DP for $120 I couldn't be happier

I used a stock WRX DP when I first put it together. The heatshielding does rub, but the pipe did as well.. even without the shielding on there. I had to heat the bottom bend and bend it down just a hair so it would clear the Xmember
