  1. the only got about a 5hp bump in power when they went to direct injection. mine is a 2017 and has a whopping 148hp... i think they went up to 152-155hp with the new fuel system.
  2. from my experience with the cvt trans, they seem to fall on their face if you give it full throttle. In my mom's forester and the couple of other auto subarus with the cvt, i noticed that they tend to run the best if you stay at 2/3 throttle or under. not sure how much of a difference that makes with altitude, though.
  3. sounds like you have a cool project on your hands. I am going to use Raptor liner, i keep hearing that it holds up amazingly but it is a lot less pricey than Rhino liner. i got mine on Amazon a while back, going to be coating my wrx with it at some point.
  4. dang, that would have been a perfect car for my GF's little brother to start with.
  5. mine should be as fun as that when i am done. going for stage rally. hoping to have a build n/a ej253 bottom end and ej25d heads (to allow me to run the wrx harness and ecu i have for tuning purposes) and a wrx drive train.if i can ever get any progress on the damn thing, anyway, lol.
  6. i am wondering how well the twin core ea81 radiators will work with an ej25. i am hoping they can handle the demands since i dont want to have to go through too much drama with my brat when i put it on the road.
  7. I think ill have to get a set of these for my brat, i have to assemble custom axels for it anyway, might as well use good boots in the process.
  8. Is anyone else going to STPR this weekend? i am going to be driving up fro Maryland on Friday. I will likely be camping in my Crosstrek since i didnt get a hotel this year. It might be cool to meet up for lunch or dinner on Friday or Saturday. I will be leaving pretty early on Sunday morning, though, I have to get back to Maryland to go to Boxerfest.
  9. there are a couple shops in the Frederick area that might be able to help out. Frederick Motorsports and Foreign Auto Excellence are both shops that i know that deal in Subaru stuff. There are probably a few others, but those two are the only ones i can remember off the top of my head.
  10. Id go with gl10, from what i remember, 87 and up, the rx was the coupe. maintenance should be the same, either way. though. pick up a haynes or chiltons manual for the car and it should have everything you need to know as far as the basics go. as for timing belts, i seem to recall they had a short life span, something like 50k or so, like DaveT said. i also recommend changing cam and crank oil seals with the belts, they liked to leak in my rx back when i still had it.
  11. welcome to the club. I too have a brat that is in need of more work than is reasonable, lol. then again, I am also modifying mine as I go. Fixing any rust while also making wrx suspension fit with it. Then I will do a 5 speed swap and an ea82 swap into it. not going to be big on power, but it should handle fairly well.
  12. im using the rx rear diff and drivetrain. i kinda need to stick with cups that will fit on the rear diff.
  13. Thats why i said that the only part i was trying to reuse was the inner cups. i already have the rest of what i need for the conversion, but the inner cups i have from my rx are rusted. i can probably get by with them until i can find another set, but i dont want to have them on there any longer than i have to.
  14. this is good to know, I need to replace the inner cups that came off of my rx when I stripped it out. it appears that they sat in water when in storage and got pretty nasty looking. and of course, it was the only part I was trying to reuse from that axle. I am going with wrx suspension and hubs on my brat, with the drive line from the rx, so I was looking at playing mix and match with the axles to get everything to work together. thought I might be in trouble since I couldn't find rear axles for sale anywhere...
  15. all the subscription covers is the on call services and satellite radio. everything else will work fine.
  16. love the build so far, cant wait to see it done.
  17. what about starting with a clean body and getting LineX coating sprayed under the chassis and wheel wells? that is what I am planning to do on my brat when I get the body fixed. partially to prevent rust, but also because I want to rally it and don't want to have to worry about gravel destroying the underside.
  18. i have done a lot, depending on the definition of "lately", lol. i built an engine for my wrx, sti block and crank, eagle rods, cosworth 100mm pistons, arp head studs, BC high rpm valve springs and retainers, headers, blouche 440xt turbo, turbo back exhaust, process west verticooler, id1000 injectors, iag tgv deletes, and probably more that i cant remember, lol. tuned to 390whp and 395 tq with a bad spark plug, lol. more recently, i got a jdm ej20x to swap into my baja turbo that ate a piston a while back. that swap is getting close to done, just need to finish the timing belt and drop it into the car. even more recently than that, i picked up a set of mostly rust free doors for my brat. i also got a full 2012 wrx suspension to try to fit under it. i also got a freshly rebuilt set of 4/2 pot wrx brakes to go with it. i am hoping to get it up and running by this summer and set up for stage rally by next race season. ive been busy, lol
  19. random question, but was it a manual trans and what are you doing with the original drivetrain parts?
  20. looking a the differences in the suspension designs, using the 2012 wrx parts i have might make it a bit easier since the newer chassis doesnt have the tall rear strut towers like the older models. It is my hope that the mounting points wont be too different between the brat and GR chassis. hopefully, i will be getting started on this soon, i will let you know how it goes. maybe once we get our cars done, we can have a meet up
  21. Mainly i was looking for a bit of help fitting the front and rear subframes to the brat so that i can run wrx suspension and brakes. I am planning on making it into a rally car. Looking at trying to get it in for ARA's Naturally Aspirated 4wd class. I am only planning on running an ea82 from an 89 xt with the 5spd from my 86 rx. Figured that would be the easiest and most cost effective way for me get my start in rally since i already have most of the parts, lol. Doubt i could afford to pay someone to do the build for me, im generally broke, lol. Life has kicked me a bit more than usual the last year, so im trying to do as much as possible on a tight budget.
  22. would you be willing to help out with my brat build? looks like you arent too far away, lol.
  23. I know its been a while, but I have an update. the dealership said that they wouldn't cover the stereo replacement, so I got a Pioneer avh-4200nex head unit and installed that this past weekend. I had to get a couple adapters to make the steering wheel controls work with it as well as the reverse camera. I didn't realize that the harness needed an adapter for the antenna, so I had to order that and the usb adapter. I also need to do some trouble shooting on the reverse camera, the head unit gets the reverse signal, but the camera doesn't come on. and for some reason, the brake light on the dash is on, which tells me that something in the e-brake lever switch is wonky, I might have clipped a wire or disconnected something when I ran the parking brake wire from the stereo. when it rains, it pours... or in my case, hail.. on a positive note, the pioneer stereo sounds way better and I can connect to my phone for music, calls, and navigation.
  24. i had the same issue in mine, every once in a while, it just randomly locks up or refuses to fully connect to my phone. frequently, it stops playing music, claiming that there is no cellular data service, where i never have an issue with my pioneer stereo in my wrx. and the icing on the crapcake that is the factory stereo, the screen shattered when i touched it to select a pandora station. the display still functions, but the top layer with the touch sensors is what broke, so i can only use the steering wheel controls or the buttons around the screen. I am actually waiting to hear back from the dealership about that issue.. it is just a poorly designed head unit....
  25. I just got home from the rally last night, met a few cool people here and there and got to see some great racing. I will post pics as soon as I can get them sorted, I took over 750, lol. Did anyone else go this year? I met a few people there that were into the old school subarus. figured id pop in a say hi, lol.
