  1. there isnt much to show here yet. i will be updating this thread as i go. i figured i should go ahead and start this thread so that i could document the progress on the project. so far, the progress ive made recently, not much, lol. to date, i have repaired the floor pans and rockers. this last weekend, i finally got the ea81 out of it as well as most of the wiring harness and just about everything else under the hood. next step is to pull the drivetrain and interior out. i think, lol.
  2. ive heard that one a lot, lol. seems like people on the east coast dont want anything to do with the project eh, i have a friend helping me out, so at least i can get some of the basics out of the way.
  3. ill have to dig up some pictures of the progress i made previously. it had a lot of rust in the floor and rockers. i replaced a lot of metal, lol. right now, there isnt much to show, aside from the engine sitting on the ground in front of the brat. until i can save up a bit more money and get my tax returns, it will just be stripping and prep work for now. i want to get the wiring sorted out while i am waiting to get the rest of the parts i need.
  4. got the engine out last night. still have a lot of work to do. mostly, i will need fabrication help if anyone is up to it and has a working welder, lol.
  5. making it live again, and by live, i mean like a monster of some sort, lol.. full 2002 wrx engine and drivetrain swap. working on stripping it out now, been working on this for 5 years now. originally just wanted it to run and be safe to drive, but i gave up on trying to figure out the carburetor and said screw it, been working on getting the parts for the swap since last spring. then engine i am putting in will be getting some moderate cams, tumbler valve delete, perrin fuel rails, new injectors (need to figure out which ones) headers, custom 3" exhaust with a high flow cat and side exit muflers (the tips will be flush with the bed sides where the side steps are now), then a good tuning (accessport tuner) that will be followed with a 5 lug hub conversion with impreza front and rear brakes and parking brake. 2000 impreza rs seats, wrx dash, 15" wheels from, i think, a legacy, and a perrin(?) short shifter from the 02wrx. all topped off with a custom coil over suspension front and rear. i have a lot of work ahead of me, lol. it should be pretty frisky when i get it done, lol.
  6. if you can make the trip to maryland, i have a 4wd dual range 4spd from my brat. granted, it is still in the brat, but i am hoping to have it out in the next week or so. i would also give you the drive shaft and rear end with it.
  7. last night i pulled the engine out of my brat finally. next is the trans and rear as well as the rest of the wiring and interior.
  8. depending on the prices. i could stand to have a set of fenders. and if you made doors, id be all over that too.
  9. i know i have posted a few threads like this over the years, but this year, i fully plan on seeing that my brat-wrx conversion is completed. once i get my tax return and bonus, ect.. i am going to try to get this done. for the most part, i have a good idea of what needs to be done. but where i have trouble is just getting help working on it. i still need to pull the stock engine and drivetrain out of it as well as the wiring and dash. i want to fit in the bugeye wrx dash and the impreza rs seats i have, i will definitely need help there. i will also need help with wiring and some of the fabrication work. i plan on getting some of thework done at a shop, mainly because i dont have a garage or proper fabrication tools (welder, pipe bender, chop saw, ect..) needless to say, i need all the help i can get. if anyone is willing to come out, i am usually down for making it worth the effort, or at least i try, lol. i tend to repay favors with food/drink. get me near a charcoal grill and i make magic happen with steak and chicken, lol. i am located in Frederick Md, about 50 miles from dc and baltimore. my plan is to start working on it again this weekend if the weather holds out. Thanks in advance. tim.
  10. sorry to bring back an old thread, but i havent been active in the suby community in the last few months. Holy ****, Garner is gone?!? dude was the inspiration for a lot of the crazy stuff i did a few years back. i kinda feel like ive been kicked in the face after reading about that. now i am totally bummed out. on the bright side, you ended up with an amazing brat. depending on the noises it is making, it could just be lifters. my 68 rx had lifter noise all the time, it would come and go, but it was usually always there. i never had any issues from the lifter noises. the cooling system was horrible, i got tired of doing head gaskets in it. i know its been a couple months since the last post, did you ever figure out what the noises were? is the brat on the road?
  11. i like the way you think. this sounds like it would be a blast. this is something that i would love to see come to the east coast. there are a few places out here that would be great for this type of racing. good luck with this, i want to see it become huge!
  12. i finally started on the brat wrx swap. i am still getting parts in, waiting on the engine and trans and a few other little bits, but its all on the way. overthe weekend, i stripped out the engine bay of everything but the engine itself since it got to be too hot to keep working and i didt have any help or an engine hoist. i need to find a turbo brat crossmemeber or get mine notched for the exhaust. thats going to be fun.
  13. i got more parts for my wrx swap in the brat. got the entire wiring harness for the wrx as well as a few engine bits, shifter and accessport tuner. i just hope the guy that is parting out the car has all of the sensors and what not that ill need when i put everything back together again.

  16. i tihnk that someone did that on here, its what my plan is for my brat. the other option is having a chunk cut from the ej axle and then get it sleeved and welded together. that was my other option if mix and match doesnt work.
  17. i just made the adapter for my mine out of the stock wheel, it is just a flat bit of steel under the padding, just cut off the tubes that are welded to it to connect the wheel part to it and make that into the adapter
  18. had the same wheel in my 86 rx sedan. i think the 86 gl-10 had that wheel as well. my 87 has a differrent wheel in it.
  19. is the little metal brace that runs vertically behind the latch there? or is the latch chunk bent?
  20. nice work, i cant wait to see the bugs worked out.
  21. wow, cute, you and the car me cooking out last summer. and me and my brat back in 07 when i was going through chemo
  22. i started the process of obtaining the engine and drivetrain from an 02 wrx. i also installed the SPT cat back into my 09 wrx. got a new car cover for the brat as well.
