September 1, 200619 yr Im at work, gonna order parts through napa for the RX. Need to get a Disty cap & rotor, along with a new coil. Which disty did the RX come with? Thought they did away with this in the EA81 years... argh! -Brian
September 1, 200619 yr *shakes head* The only reliable way I've ever found to match Subie parts is to take the old parts in with me. The major difference between the Nippendenso & Hitachi distys is the style of holding the cap on - one uses clips, one uses screws. And... I've got no idea which is which. Also, "What it came with" and "what it has now" are often enough different. Just take the old parts in, or make a note of what they look like. -=Russ=-
September 1, 200619 yr All the crank angle disty's are Hitachi. Subaru only used one style of CAS disty for all it's FI engines. Anything for SPFI, MPFI or Turbo will work. GD
September 1, 200619 yr All the crank angle disty's are Hitachi. Subaru only used one style of CAS disty for all it's FI engines. Anything for SPFI, MPFI or Turbo will work. GD I beg to differ. My '87 GL and '92 Loyale have two different types of distributor, and they're both SPFI. -=Russ=-
September 1, 200619 yr Strange - all I've ever seen are the Hitachi units with the screw on caps. What's the "other" unit look like? GD
September 1, 200619 yr Rotors can definitely be different. Tried to swap cap and rotor between T-loyale and another FI (can't remember if T-MPFI or SPFI)... no go on the rotor, didn't get to the cap.
September 1, 200619 yr Strange - all I've ever seen are the Hitachi units with the screw on caps. What's the "other" unit look like? GD there are the clip style as well. basically the same thing just using a differnt style cap. I do like Russ and bring my old part to match. the parts listings for distributor parts are worthless.
September 1, 200619 yr The non-answer that everbody has been waiting for... Disty casting has an FHI swoosh-logo on it and FHI part number; no other id that I can find that indicates maker. All of the CAS-style disties that I looked at (87-twagon, 88 N/A XT, 88 SPFI) have Hitachi caps on them.
September 1, 200619 yr Author My cap screws on, and my rotor has a screw holding it in place. Cant really get the company discount if I walk in with the parts... but, looks like I may have to do that anyhow. -Brian
September 1, 200619 yr There's only one style that has the screw on cap (with the exception of the EA81T, but not likely you'll get anything like that) - just ask for the part, and look at it when they bring it to the counter. If it's got holes for the screws, and the rotor has the set screw on the back side you're almost certainly good.... at least that's how I did it when I got one locally. GD
