84 wagon steering wheel shakes/vibration causes????

Featured Replies

Say my 1984 wagon's steering wheel shakes/vibrates when Im driving.. It only seems to do it when Iam not pressing down on the gas pedal... What do you guys think is the problem and fix??

Joe

Hey, I just experienced this the other day in my EA81. It's the inboard joint (the DOJ, on the tranny). Mine doesn't have a boot, or grease for the matter. Does it feel like you have a wheel thats about to come off the car? If so, then yeah, thats it.

Well stupid question.. what is a DOJ?????

I had a sticking caliper just replaced... But not the rotors...

Someone said a DOJ, On the tranny... What is this on the trans..

I think the boots are ok.... I had a guy repack a front wheel bearing on one side... What ya think...

Bump... I looked up the DOJ thinger in the how to keep a sunie alive book.. Now I know what that thing is... Any other suggestions????

Joe glad to see you are learning the nomenclature

You say

"Any other suggestions????"

Well since you don't like what we have said thus far (kinda looks like an bad Double Offset Joint) but you asked so

1) out of balance tire

2) bad tie rods

3) bad ball joints

4) out of round tire

5) bent rim

6) broken belts in a tire

7) bad motor mounts

8) bad tranny mounts

9) bad roads

10) front struts or top bearings

-- well I could go on but that checking all that should keep you busy for an afternoon or so
