September 13, 200619 yr A little background: When I was 16 my dad bought me an '86 RX Turbo. That was my first car. When that car was hit by an F350 that ran a stop sign, I purchased an 89 RX Turbo. I enjoyed that car until I joined the military. I ended up giving it up to auction (it was having alot of problems, mainly because I liked to rallycross), and since then I have owned 4 more Subaru's, including my wife's current '97 Legacy, and my '05 STi. I have always had a softspot for the RX, and have been kinda half looking for one ever since. Now Im 25 and think Im in a position to pick up a car like I used to have before they all disappear. My question: I have found an '87 RX Turbo in PA, which is very near where I live. It has some issues, but I think it'd make a good project car. I am hoping to post the text and images from the ad and ask what price the collective knowledge on here would pay, since I've been out of old school Subies for a while now. The Ad: This is a 1987 Subaru RX rarer then hens teeth !! dont believe me try to find 1 just 1,This is awd with high & low range on tranny . Comes with almost a complete motor,My son is tired of playing with this car can only get running off 3 cyl., Also put new timming belts on it , has all good compression in all cyl., I think the injector has a piece of dirt in it ,not letting it run off that cyl.,body is a little rusty but straight, when this car runs right ,it moves ! http://i12.ebayimg.com/02/i/08/26/83/26_1.JPG http://i20.ebayimg.com/04/i/08/1f/03/7d_1.JPG http://i3.ebayimg.com/05/i/08/2a/4e/7b_1.JPG http://i5.ebayimg.com/06/i/08/2a/5c/64_1.JPG http://i24.ebayimg.com/03/i/08/24/87/d8_1.JPG http://i21.ebayimg.com/04/i/08/1e/5e/54_1.JPG EDIT: This seems to be my first post, I thought I'd been here before. I can also be found as TurboRX on NASIOC and Horhay on IWSTI. Thanks in advance for any help.
September 13, 200619 yr I've been watching that auction. Thinking about it myself. It has been relisted after it "sold", I don't know why. If the injector / 3-cyl is really the only problem, you will have no problem driving it home.
September 13, 200619 yr Author what would you say is a good price for the car? I hear about them going pretty cheap, and this car seems like it should too. Less than his asking price at least.
September 13, 200619 yr I'd say probably 600 bux at the most. I bought mine identical to that one for $400 it had a blown motor warped, turbo and about half a dozen other things wrong too. Give it a try, good luck.
September 14, 200619 yr Yeah with rust like that, and a failing motor... offer him no more than $500. He's right when he sais they are rare, but running subarus are more common and not much different (other than the LSD and the trans). -Brian
