Subaru Star, how rare?

Featured Replies

I was looking at the pictures of that awesome junkyard in AZ that has been making the rounds on various forums, and saw a picture of a Subaru Star (aka 1100?). I was wondering how rare these are in North America? I'm thinking I remember seeing some of these very early cars in the mid eighties out west when I was younger... I'd love to put a more modern Suby drivetrain into one! Even though I'm more in to German cars, VWs and BMWs, I'm still a big fan of Subarus, as my family had a '78 4WD wagon that we loved until it rusted into oblivion.;) How related are these to the one my family had? This image seems to suggest more than I thought...H89002t.jpg Anyway, I'd like any info about the Star/early series coupe or how to locate one (the one from the picture I saw is likely crushed by now), thanks!

Anthony, these are without question, the most rare of all Subarus left in the USA or otherwise.

We know of only three or four running or close to running here in the USA.

Oh damn, well, I woudn't hack up a car that rare! One of you guys in the SW better get on the case of this car then! I don't quite have the resources until my house sells. Read about this remarkable junkyard on the thread from vwvortex.com! I can only assume that it contains or contained some of the last/best examples of some cars in North America, if not the world.

I don't know if they are all crushed, or what cars were moved, or what...

NOOO SAY IT ISNT SO!

Consider yourself fortunate to have seen one with your own two eyes. I haven't...

Man did you see the picture of that Brat! It looks better than the Brat I drive. Where's the rust? Two words, Road trip! Just would like to know if it still existed and a price.

Looks like a 9 1/2 hour drive from where I live. I would do it if the cars are still there and it was a great price.

I spoke to them today on my drive to Long Beach. They are very nice. The woman told me that they crushed the Japanese cars (gasp.) But I want to see for myself. I may go home to Phoenix next weekend for my BD. I will keep you posted.

Dude! Did you see the Brown Gen 1 wagon with the graphics on the side in the background? Also, what was the orange car back there? Looks like a wagon.....

Awww man, I just couldn't bear to look any more. The thought of all of those great solid cars getting sent to the crusher is just too much.

You gotta wonder if any of those old wagons are the split rear gate type like Andrew has.

Also, there appeared to be an ea81 wagon in that rare blue that Sean had. What a shame.....

Not to mention all of the other cool old cars that aren't subies....

  • 2 weeks later...

There's a 2-in-3 chance that the orange wagon has a clamshell. Those were only offered in that color '72-'74.

i called them the other day, and ALL THE CARS ARE GONE!!! :-\

that truly is a huge shame to waste such a good collection:confused:

those cars are long gone unless one of the emplyees took some and started his own yard. the dates on those posts are from 2000 :(
