MRduke
Considering another subaru purchase, an auto 1993 Loyale that has tranny issues. Apparently it wants to go reverse when in Park...? the fluid looks fine, smells a little toasty, but not burned... What could be the issue? Electrical? Slipping tranny? Please help; I'd love to buy this thing... Thanks!
Caboobaroo
Even though you didn't state it, its an automatic, probably a 3AT. My suggestion would be to check the adjustment of the shifter cable linkage down on the tranny. The shifter might be going into park, but that doesn't mean that the tranny itself is going into park. IIRC, the adjustment is on the passenger side but its been awhile since I looked at a 3AT. You can't miss it when you crawl under the car. GeneralDisorder
Yeah - sounds like a linkage thing. GD
NorthWet
Does it act normal while in neutral and the forward gears? (i.e. - not trying to be in Reverse?) If it acts normally, then it is probably the (rod, not cable) linkage adjustment as the others have said. If it acts like it is in reverse in other gears, than your reverse/forward band/actuator probably has an issue.
