spark plug seals

Featured Replies

So, apparently I don't have spark plug seals on my '96 2.2L. From everything that I have read, I concluded that my '96 2.2L did in fact have spark plug seals. Can anyone verify this.

What exactly do you mean by spark plug seals?

The DOHC motors have an O-ring like seal around between the valve cover and the head around the spark plug...is that what you're talking about? Your engine shouldn't have anything like that, as the spark plug hole is above the valve cover.

Exactly what i was thinking.

Yeah, I'll second the the fact that a 96 EJ22 does not have plug seals. The plugs enter the top of the cyliner, above the valve cover.

Just looked at my '96 legacy 2.2, and yep the spark plugs appear to go right into the heads above the valve covers, so I don't think there would be a spark plug hole seal.

However on '00OBW 2.5 sohc the spark plug holes do penetrate the valve cover and have seals that look like the ones in pic below.
