October 11, 200619 yr just curios, but why is everyone swapping the 2.2 instead of a newer 2.5? ( preferably one without the h.g. issues ) i just figure more power is better, but i wanted to hear it from those that have done it, and those who care to give their oppinions.......
October 11, 200619 yr the 31-34 2.2l is non OBDII and non interferance. so you wont have any check engine lights on (if you chose to hook the light up). and way less wiring... -=Suberdave=- www.suberdave.com
October 11, 200619 yr Non-interference for the win. OBDI for the ease of wiring. Plus they're in high supply, as opposed to the newer engines.
October 11, 200619 yr After swapping in a cheap 97 2.2L, I questioned why I didn't just do a 2.5L motor. Anyone know of a good place to locate any of the new 2.5L? I haven't looked at an OBDI harness, is the wiring that much different? The check engine light is nice to have working (if you leave things stock) lets you know when somethings not working right.
October 12, 200619 yr All of the above plus there is not enough evidence to point to the SOHC 2.5's having better track records with head gaskets.
October 12, 200619 yr At 135-140 you are really at the reliability limit of the 5mt D/R and pushing it further up to over 150 hp you may be getting into replacing syncro's and gears at a rapid rate. Sure, some probably have run higher horse on a EA tranny, but if you want to keep it for a while, i wouldn't reccomend it.
