need some help, got dead sube

Featured Replies

ok i just got a 1986 gl10. fuel injected, w / an electronic dash, and when i crank it over, it just barely tries to start and then dies, it has spark but no fuel, it has a new fuel pump. also the plug that plugs into the pump is getting "juice" to it. when i take off the fuel filter, and crank it, no gas gets pumped out, the pump doesnt even "engage". i dont know what it could be so im turning to the experts, any help would be very appriciated.

i checked all connectors, fuses, and all that good stuff. but nothin.

I would start with the fuel pump relay..

Plug your geen diagnostic connectors in(probably under the dash on drivers side.. not sure though.. never had an 85-86 soob) then turn the key to the "on " position.. you should hear the fuel pump cycle off and on in 1.5 second bursts.. should also hear the fuel pump relay click every 1.5 seconds.

Check your computer for error codes while your at it

Have you tried sending compressed air or something thru the fuel line to see if theres a nasty clog somewhere preventing fuel from moving? I think the pump has a pressure switch in it and if it has resistance it won't send fuel/engage.

I think youve already narrowed it down to the fuel pump. IF the pump is getting juice, but not pumping anything.... i would think the pump needs to be replaced.

thanx. We tested the old pump and it pumped fine, but the car already came with a brand new, non returnable one so we threw that one in for good measure. also , im gonna go search, but what is it i hear on this site about green diagnostic computers? they come with the car or what?

well thanx again.

remove the kick panel from under the steering column. there are 2 green clips. plug thos in, and the fuel pump will kick on, off, on

look on the drivers door jam and see the manufacture date month/year

the odds are higher that the double metal prong bright green connector is up under the hood next to the windshiled wiper motor's base. if so then the single prong black connector will be there with it too. That is instead of under the dash"kickplate".

a test to see if its a clog from the tank to the pump is the simple syphon technique.

have some clean can and a length of hose going from the output side of pump into the can and then have someone turn the key to "on" for ya for a few seconds to see if fuel does indead flow into the can. :>) IF thta doesn't run the pump long enough for your benefit then you could do the ole "jumper wire" trick and have the battery down near that rear tire and run a pair of alligator jumpers to the motor and have someone touch to the terminals of the battery to make sure that both pumps do pull fuel from the tank.
