  1. Hey, whats up SubaruTex, i know your smart enough to know this but its the only real help i can give. The computer, for safty, wont ground the fuel pump relay and fire the coil unless it knows the engine is cranking. The comp can only know this if a crank/cam or some syncronizing sensor in the distributor is telling it that the engine is cranking. Generally when you dont have these two items at the same time, (spark and fuel) its one of the above sensors, or subarus equivilant. I just realized i was in the subaru retrofit section so its very likely some wire is messed up or backwards and im going about this from the wrong angle. But id get a good multimeter and check the frequency of the cam/crank sensors. Your other post on 6/14/2006 "I'm not getting spark, except sometimes randomly at the end of cranking, or the very begining. (just enough for a pop)" kinda made it sound like a problem i had on my dirt bike, (very different i know) but it turned out to be a bad ground wire at the computer/ign module thing. Any way have fun with it.
  2. Is it both front brakes or one? I have no idea why both would act up unless a proportioning valve or combo-valve went bad or something along those lines. Also if both brakes locked up, im not sure you'd even be able to hit 20 MPH. My advice, check your Hill Holder cable, if its adjusted too tight, it will cause one front and one rear brake to lock. that was the problem with one of my wagons, the front brake dragged to the point that it was barely movable, untill you opened the caliper bleeder valve. loosen it up and check it out. The swollen line is a possible culprit but i would check the HH first. Its a bit easier.
  3. Thank you GLcraigGT. i figured since mine is a ea71, but still has all the other ea81 suspension parts, the transmission wouldnt be too different if at all. Does anyone have any info on the computer controlls or any electrical issues? my ea71 has electronic ignition, but i think thats the only real difference other than the computer. Anything else? Thanks a bunch.
  4. Yea, ok, i had a little plan to swap the ea81 from my 82 wagon (Dr 4spd) into my 80 hatch. (ea71 SR 4spd w/ top-mount starter.) from researching i cant find a way to mate the ea81 to the ea71 tranny so, can i just swap the engine AND tranny between the two?? Since the wheelbase's of the older roos are all the same, i should be able to without worrying about the driveshaft right? And even if the trannys are slightly different lengths, i could just swap drive shafts as well. correct? Is all this good so far? also since the engine has its own little computer, how much electrical would i NEED to swap? Thanks y'all. Tyler J.
  5. i think thats beautiful! is it real?? however i really doubt that a stock justy has enough power to turn those monster wheels anywhere other than down a hill. As for rolling backwards, im sure that could pose a problem, but it does have a really wide track, and an extremely light body, so im sure (if it has power) it could put up a damn good fight against a lot of people. Rickdog. I guarantee you that baby doesnt get 35mpg's. not trying to start a war, but why the hell is so many people against the justy? i mean seriously whats with the "rolleyes" and the scoffs? i know its an underdog, and in a completely different league of its own, but damn!! give them and their owners a freakin' break. what do you think the people on that pirate board do to others like, hum lets see, US , with there bitching that we're just a car and dont have V8s and the like? your all doing the same thing when you say "its not worth it" or "it's stupid," to people striving to have fun in the car THEY love. and to another SUBARU at that. you're either stupid, or just rude, obnoxious people.
  6. well im not sure exactly what your asking, but i think what your dealing with is a Fuel Pressure Regulator, you can pump all you want and it will still only allow 3 psi in. so get an adjustable, or larger F.P.R.
  7. open up the bleeder nipple, that should release enough pressure to get it goin. sounds like brakes to me. Id also check the hillholder linkage.
  8. Man dude!!, if your going to be racking up over 30k miles a year, you should probably just look into getting an airplane. but seriously i have no idea what car you should get next. sorry.
  9. Well yes you are right that if you lengthened an axle, you could run more lift with the same joint/angle restrictions, and ive thought about this as well, BUT you would also have to lengthen the lower control arm, the steering arms, the anti-roll bar, the nuckle/shock would need to be pushed out/away from the body in accord with the ammount you lengthen you axle. or you could leave the shock mount virtical and fabricate a mount that "doglegs" to the new location of your steering nuckle. ?? All in all it would be pretty freaken cool, and it would be the lift i would most definately want, but you would need to use a auto CAD or something to make sure the geometry is correct/even and what not. If you can, go for it. This would also be a excelent mod, for the rear wheel drive people. insane ammounts of suspension, and you dont need to worry about the axles.
  10. i gotsta '79 (build date) hatchback. parts are a B**** to find. when i go to the dealer, they usually dont know how to use the ol' books. I spent 35-45 minutes in there just waiting.
  11. Oh earlier i believe you said that the e-brake did infact work. this was also the case when my HH was too tight. i could use the e-brake all i wanted but as soon as i touched the brakes it would poop on me. so again, hows your HH?
  12. what did you change? did you add/re-arrange those yellow lights in the bumper? Did you thicken the black stripe? All i can really tell that you did is the grill. it all loooks factory to me. i like!
  13. Im gonna take a stab. How tightly adjusted is your hill holder?? The previous owner of mine had it WAY too tight so when you hit the brake, the front left wheel would lock up. the rears wernt adjusted correctly so they wernt working at all. since your RR tire is locking up, it goes with my problem seeing as my FL was acting up. I dont see how both callipers would be bad. It seems to me it would be your MC or HH.
  14. i think that would be friggen awsome. man, ive been thinking about kool project VW cars, and ej22s, but i never thought of the "thing." id drive it!
  15. do as you please with the cat. sure a bit more pollution, but as long as it passes at the dmv, its fine with me. Besides, even gutted, itll prolly run cleaner than these damn excursions and suburbans and escalades...etc. yea ok, were taking away SOOO many of your rights not letting you turn off your DRL's. I believe they are coming manditory on cars for a reason eh?? geeze, kids working at Mc. Donalds HAVE to wash there hands before getting back to work, i mean, sons of bitche s, how dare they tell them what to do. and i thought we were free. god nevermind im not even going to get into that. anymore at least. Glad your ok with them now, its a safety feature, not just for you ya know? and you dont need to ignore me, not agree sure, but ignore? how rude! consider this, what if Truckers took off those rear bumper things on their trailers, you know the ones that keep people from decapitating themselves in a rear ender, just to shave off a few pounds? not really a good thing. well enjoy, and yes someone sure brought this post back from the grave.
  16. I thought there was two radiators, all i see is one. anway, the one i do see looks pretty well past its prime. im betting one new good radiator would suffice. waht problems are you having with the cooling??
  17. thats one wiered looking MC, is there aluminum foil wrapped arround it?? and those wires, its looks like a uh...um... a wire manufacturing plant blew up in there. lol anyway, yea that corrosion sure looks nasty, id hate to work in that. Has that bad boy been overheated? id sure be worried about that. have you thought about just getting a new short block from a JY and started from scratch? or are you just planning on getting it running, or to where it should be runing, then yoink it out and rebuild it? anyway, its a great lookin project, now get it running already!!!
  18. Well in my '80 Hatch, no lift, cheap '13 tires, i was farting arround when i came to a basin thing right by my house. its where rain water flows out of a wash into this big "bowl". well this water had been there a long time and i decided to go play. the ledge of the bowl was about 3 feet tall and fairly steep, but it was covered with algae! i just wanted to see how deep it was, so to be safe i just set my drivers side wheels in but it slid right in, it was soo slippery, i sat there going back and forth but it couldnt pull itself up, so i got out and found a piece of wet plywood, slid it under my wheels and pulled out, that one really scared me a little as it was pretty illegal to be in there. another time i was playing out in a local desert when i came to a place where water made gorge through a trail so i decided to crawl through. i went in one wheel at a time at about a 45 degree angle. it was pretty steep, some of the times the rear wheel would be 2-3 feet in the air! the bumper got stuck coming out, so two tires didnt have any traction, one in the gorge barely touching sand, and the rear up in the air, luckally, idiots dump crap out there so i gathered blocks and carpet and stuff, cramed it under my tires and backed out. but fortunately, i never got actually stuck to the point that i needed help to get out.
  19. seriously, were you 4 when you had your kid? you dog you!
  20. short question. Why? i mean, do you want it like vw style or as in backwards backwars like northwet just said? if you mean backwards backwards, what on earth could be the benifit? so you could go 100 miles per hour backwards?
  21. Then why didnt you just buy a svx one?? And im not sure but usually the part wont be cross referenced to a car that old ya know? Especially in a computer. Its prolly just not written down. i dunno, Im prolly wong though yea thats all ill say, just a smart rump roast remark will do. and yea, the people here never help me when it has to do with an older soob. if they have to go searching through the actual books, they just fumble arround a bit then say, "no we dont have it."
  22. Im kinda torn, i do believe they have the right to want do so because of safety/liability reasons, but only with owners consent. They should have asked, or at least told him they were cuting them off, then if he still wanted them, maby he could have signed a waiver or something and kept them. but i dont know there is so many loopholes in lawsuits and such, i guess i dont blame em for whacking them off, and whats the chance of them running accross someone who actually does use them?
