  1. thanks Miles, today i recharged the battery, "then felt up my car." i found that every thing was cold, EXCEPT for the alternator. (car hasnt run in days.) i disconected the in the back of the alt, then i took off the white wire also connected to the alt. when i did that it sparked quite a bit. can the alternator "backdraw" power through its coils? or is it because the white wire is grounding out somewhere? its the one that runs from the alt, then TEEs to the fuseable link box, and somewhere up front. by the way, when i got the car, the fuseable link for the white wire (from alt) was fried. that help you any? tyler

OK UNDO THE LAST TWO POSTS! i found the clips(more like plugs to me), PLUGged them in and with the key on ACC it DID cycle (sounded like a blinker,) i also disconnected the ground wire, what else?? what now?? lovin the help so far. thanx again p.s i did get the right "clips" didnt I? they were under drivers side "kick board" just floppin arround. i didnt just intiate some self destruct or turn on some homing beacon?:-p eh had to be them.
  3. the pump is just grounded, but what im going to do is disconect it and see if it drains the batt, form there ill see thanks
  4. ive heard a lot about these clips but i cant find them anywhere. any one know i guess ill go look again.
  5. ok thanks all, i really dont want to sell it but if its gonna be a money hole, its gone. my problem is that when its started, a few of the items dont register, such as gas and trip, do thoses just need a few moments to register? another problem is that the lights/parking lights/ would act up , but we figured out its just the switch. well my REAL problem is that the battery drains overnight, cant figure it out! really need that one fixed. have any of you had the prob? ugh, its driving me nuts. also when i origionally got the car, the fuel pump would not engage, so we bypassed the ground in the ignition (or whatever) and now it works, could that be the problem?? doubt it, but. no dont need another dash thanks any how. oh by the way, she already has 180,000 miles on her. oh one more thing, the turbo, squeals/whines/crys, pretty lound, not a normal whiz or anythiing like that. why so loud? need rebuilt? normal? well thanks again for the help, type to ya soon.

  7. hey, whats up all? well any way, i have an '86 gl10, digidash, nice car, but i dont know whether i wanna keep it because of all the electronics:rolleyes: . my question is how reliable are the electronic dashboards? will it basically last as long as i own the car , or will it need changed as often as my oil? well i love the car but if the gl10 was a guine pig for the digidash and it has more problems then michael jackson, then i think, for my wallets sake, ill just sell. i mean it already has a few electrical probs i cant figure out.. any who own/ed one, any info would be greatly appriciated. thanx again tyler
  8. hey all, im beginning a project and i had a question that could use an answer. first off, the project. im planing on building a mini buggy/ORV. originally i was planing on using VW CVs as well as the hubs and bearing carriers. BUT since i dont want to upgrade VW parts to disk brakes, and subarus are very cheap and plentiful, would it be adviseable to use the same parts as intended, but off of a GL10 or any other subie with rear disk brakes. are the cvs equally strong/stronger than a VWs? does the travel abilities of each differ greatly or at all? any help greatly appriciated. thanx tyler
  9. alright alright alright, sounds good, ill give it a try, i didnt even think of that. if it doesnt work, ill just carry about 20 batteries in the back wherever i go.
  10. ok i have a 1986 gl10.. when i park it the battery drains(overnight) its not the battery, it holds a charge in other cars. when we got it, the fuel pump wouldnt pump so, we figured it had to do with the ignition. we grounded the pump and now it works, could that by any chance have anything to do with it? Also my light switch doesnt work quite properly, when i turn on the parking lights, everything works, but when i turn it to regular lights, the tail lights go off. any help would be appriciated. thanx

  12. Hey all, does anyone by any chance know the approxamate dimentions of the Ej22 and/or Ej20 engines, (height, length, and width.) Im seeing what they could possibly be transplanted into. if anyone knows, the tranny dimentions would also be helpful. thanx, subaru on!!!!

Hey all i have a 1980 gl 4x4 (ea71) and i blew the front right cv joint. i was wondering, what other modles axles/ cv's will fit on my car. and is there a rear disc conversion for mine. also where can i get beefier shocks and/or struts for it, just to get a little bit more height out of it and a slightly nicer ride. will any other subarus fit? Thanx for any input tyler
  14. what about the justy, i have a '88 justy that when its in 4wd, it whines, and doesnt seem to like it very much, do the same "rules" and limitations apply to her? thanx again

  16. i have a 1980 gl hatchback (ea71 4x4 4 speed and all that good stuff) and in my manual it doesnt give me any speed limit, and or shifting limit for the four wheel drive. what speed can i safely(mechanically) drive it in. i know not to when turning, or to use different sized tires. but i wanna go on dirt trails pretty fast. so help me out brothas. thanx. subarus ROCK!!!!

We tested the old pump and it pumped fine, but the car already came with a brand new, non returnable one so we threw that one in for good measure. also , im gonna go search, but what is it i hear on this site about green diagnostic computers? they come with the car or what? well thanx again.
  18. ok i just got a 1986 gl10. fuel injected, w / an electronic dash,and when i crank it over, it just barely tries to start and then dies, it has spark but no fuel, it has a new fuel pump. also the plug that plugs into the pump is getting "juice" to it. when i take off the fuel filter, and crank it, no gas gets pumped out, the pump doesnt even "engage". i dont know what it could be so im turning to the experts, any help would be very appriciated. i checked all connectors, fuses, and all that good stuff. but nothin.
