  1. well this is also a "thing" that most turbo cars do. when its shut down, you hear, just as you describe, a faint bubbling. is it coming from the turbo/downpipe area? the turbos get so hot that it either boils the water or oil in them. also be sure you let the car idle for about a minute after driving to let it cool down and circulate some water and oil through it. and yes as subaru styles and Vanislru say it could be a boiling water issue due to a HG problem. tyler
  2. i think its completely impossible to pick a favorite SUBARU. over the years there have been so many different types with different unique features that if i ever owned any of them, each and every one of them would grow on me, so im sure right now we can say we love one model the most. but if we put as much time and energy into a different subie, we would love it just as much. so i think that every subie is in its own "class", and you just cant compare them against each other. sure xt to xt6, but brat to wagon??? or rx to hatch?? nope! i love 'em all. "SUBARU ALL W'ELL DRIVE " not RX ALL W'ELL DRIVE, or Wagon ALL W'ELL DRIVE. but SUBARU. heh heh I LOVE EM ALL! :-p tyler
  3. sweet ill keep that in mind for a really bad day, right now my Chilton and Haynes i got with the car are doing the trick. tyler
  4. yup im with craven, but i think its also location. down here in tucson and surrounding area, its hard to get great deals on cars, parts, or anything! and yet i hear all the time in northern states, people getting fantastic deals on everything! from cars for free/$50 to parts by the truckload for a few dollars. i feel the same way SubaSkeet, i rarely go to the junk yards anymore, i just get what i can from fellow members, easier and also safer. of course i still do rummage, but i generally dont buy. tyler
  5. '81 isnt a first gen though is it?
  6. You forgot MEEEEEE!!!! ok i would like, for a 1980, 1600cc, 4SPD 4WD tranny... 1.) an oil seal for the "shift shaft", 2.) an oil seal for the "4WD shift shaft", and 3.) a gasket for the tranny extension. also for a 1986 gl10 turbo wagon. 1.) a gasket for the turbo exhaust OUTLET/downpipe INLET, and 2.) (if you can) two studs with nuts for the turbo. the pics for the first three are here http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1315 here http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1314 and here http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1316 you asked me to PM this list to you on monday but if your taking orders now, here ya go! ill PM my info to you tommorrow or monday. ok? ok. thanks a bunch, tyler j
  7. SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!! thanks a bunch dude, ill talk to ya later. ill have to wait longer, but this way i dont need to go to the dealership. today i almost ran down there to MAKE them work! so do you work in the subie buisness, at a dealership or something or is this kinda hobby like? thanks, tyler j
  8. the first pic is of the 4WD shift shaft seal, the second is where the seal im lookin for goes, and the third one is of the gasket ill probably need. thanks, tyler
  9. OK i was going to PM you this but its to hard managing the pics, so.. hey, do you think you could hook me up with that seal, as well as the gasket, and the oil seal for the 4WD "shift shaft"? if so...SWEET!! that would be awsome ive posted the pics considering everywhere ive called the numbers didnt matter. thanks dude. tyler
  10. no WJM its a 4 speed, 4wd tranny. it is just one oil seal that is for the "shift shaft." i think its only this one seal. ill try posting a pic that'll clarify. if you can look it up, i also could use the same type of oil seal but for the 4WD shift shaft. as well as the gasket for the tail end of the tranny. thanks a bunch bro. ill PM you but i cant call, i dont have long distance on my home phone.
  11. that sounds rather nice, i myself am in a pickle right now looking for a part that is "hiding." but is this list totally needed? i know theres been a little uprising of people looking for obsolete parts but is it really that serious?? is there enough to sound an alarm. if it is that would be great! actually nevermind all that, go right ahead becasue if its not needed now, by the time you compile a nice list, it will be needed! ill send any stuff i can your way. tyler
  12. well GD, the ******* arround her decided to turn my "AA PULL-YOUR-PART" into just a regular junk yard so taking apart whole parts, such as trannys, isnt allowed. well i was being a little crazy saying that well have to junk the cars becasue of a seal but we will have to junk the trannys if we cant re seal them anymore. as for the tranny swap as stated above i will be doing a driveline swap, (i have an ea71 so 5 spd alone is out of the question) but i dont know when ill be able to do it, because in arizona i dont fine soobs for 10 dollars here and 50 dollars there, cars are expensive here, or are all takin down to mexico. im still lookin for a donor car. or EJ parts to complete the swap. ill check them out thanks subiemech85. PHATBRAT, im sure ill find it like that, but most of the autoplaces here hire kids who dont know anything and dismiss you if you ask for help or imply that they should work, and you generally you need to be bilingual to get any info from them. anyway thanks all for the help, you just dont realize how lucky you are when you dont need to search for parts. argh. thanks, tyler j
  13. actually craig, everyone told me that as well, so i dropped the tranny got the tail end off and found out it pops out the front. i laughed histarically, then got mad, but either way it wouldve been mucho harder if i had to do it with the tranny still in. so, in conclusion, it is easier to drop the tranny to replace it, BUT the seal does not have to slide in through the inside, it just pops in. there i just unbusted anyones buble who was dreading that.
  14. well ive tried tranny places and they all said they cant get it.
  15. ok ill give that a shot tomorrow, thanks any others? tyler j
  16. well you didnt reply to my thread either!!! j/k anyway, is that all youll sell, body parts? i remember your thread but i havnt had any trouble with parts untill lately. tyler j
  17. another reason im annoyed is because i'll be doing a drivetrain swap in the near future and i still need it running and driving before then. argh tyler j
  18. ok i pulled my tranny out, because a 5 dollar seal is leaking. (the oil seal for the shift rod, where it enters the tranny. the "shift-shaft" seal.) and well i finally got arround to calling subaru, and they said this part is "obsolete, discontinued the car is too old" even though i just bought a oil seal for the tranny output shaft a few weeks ago from them! now if SUBARU wont carry them, as well as every auto parts place i can think of, what the hell am i supposed to do?? It just doesnt make any sence!! this would mean that any car using this seal is trash as soon as the seal wears out. arrgh. Help? Suggestions? the seal brand is NOK, and the part # is ARO677G, the "O" is either a zero or an O. ive put in a request at http://www.mspseals.com/ and so maby they can help. it just really irritates me that super kick ***** cars like ours dont get any respect, people just expect them to dissapear, so they can make room for....god forbid,...neons. thanks a bunch all, tyler j
  19. another thing, subarus really dont need many tools to take them apart. if you plan ahead, gather all the tools you'll need as well as plenty of tools to pry, wedge, and smack with, you'll be fine. if you have enough basic tools, and your wrenching buddies have a few tools they could bring, it might go smoother at your house. because rushing somthing like this could also be a baaaaaad idea. plus when your in a hurry, and your "crusing" along, and then you run into a minute problem, it usually seems MUCH larger than it is and it could really spoil your attitude, which would then lead to more and more tools winding up over the fence or in a neighboring yard. so (now im siding) unless you really want to push your luck, id say plan ahead, do it with your friends(work on the car that is ) have fun, and do it right the first time. plus if you have a "guinea pig," maby you could use him/her to go get special tools you need from the said yard. just an idea. cheers bro, tyler j
  20. well im not siding, because i dont know how knowlegeable you or your friends are, or....., but i will say that you should ALWAYS prepare for stupid little problems that will annoy the crap out of you, cause you to hurl ratchets into neighbors yards, and slow you down dramastically. i know it sucks being pessimistic when it come to fun and cool projects but, it sucks more when you run into problems with a deadline!!!
  21. well all the lift does is raise your body from the suspension components, your not really doing anything crazy or removing anything, your just installing spacers .. now how rusty is your car, if the body is starting to go, thats one thing, you should repair it and let it go NO further, but check underneath your car, at the framerails, points where your suspension is bolted to your body, (where you'll be installing your "spacers") and under your hood, look at anything structurally important. if any of this is geting cancerous, you should make her as comfortable as possible because at that point its only a small matter of time. inspections or not, for your safety and anyone elses, dont, because having your car drop or collapse on you on the interstate will definately put a damper on your day. now if its ONLY body panels, go ahead with the lift, but be sure you fix what rust you have now. check the "type" of rust and let us know. tyler
  22. more lighting please. but looks great. also, what type of rims are those on the subie in the foreground. they look freakin awsome. i need! thanks, tyler
  23. haha only because YOU want his PS rack lol. have fun with it, with cars this light we dont really need PS unless you have huge tires or rubber arms. tyler.
