  1. ok help me out one more time, the two pics show the seal, it is indeed a seal. im guessing all the mud runs killed it. anyway, the pic showing a side view of it and its housing makes me think that it should be acssesible from the front, or without removing the chunk of tranny. what do you think? i was thinking that the housing that the seal rides in has the same size lip on both sides of it, in the tranny and on the outside. so well i dont know, i think removing the tranny to replace a littl seal is a little extreme, but i dont know. and also when i do replace it, where will i get it from, i dont know its part number, even the real name for it. thanks alot all, tylerj
  2. really sorry to hear that. i once got rearended in a 1998 ford windstar, cop and by-standers said he was doing about 45-50 no breaking, he slammed into us, tried running, then was cut off and stopped. then he came and asked us if we were ok. he was uninsured, so we got crap, except for a fixed car. get whatever you can out of her, because she most likely is insured, her car will be fixed or paid off, and all she'll get is a ticket. and if they total out your car, you wont get ish, so try and get some sort of medical, or a real settlement. i hate that kind of crap the most, they view our 20 year old cars as crap so. argggggh. hope the best for you. tyler j
  3. sealer.. on a head gasket? i wasnt aware that there was a sealant for that application. are you talking about a "form a gasket"?? i didnt think anything else went on.:-\ well sorry to hear about the leak, and have fun.
  4. hey guys and gals, (1980 hatch 1600 4wd 4 spd) my tranny is leaking oil right where the shift rod enters into the tranny. how is that seal replaced? will the seal slide out and be a fairly easy fix or will the end of the tranny (transfer case??) need to be removed? any help appriciated, i havnt found any article or help on it so help. thanks tyler jandran
  5. well how would a leaky intake manifold gasket let oil in water and water in oil? burnig water, sure, but mixing? i dont know, if it is possible, id sure like to know. thanx. but to me it sounds like a head/gasket. could be manifold. still learning
  6. yea the first one i am scared about, but the others the crack is kinda thick but it doesnt extend down by the valve , it just stayes on the upper level, in between, (sorry dont know the technical terms) valve seat? anyhoo, thats the story, the first one i fret, but ill get them tested anyway, thanks a bunch, GD, u can post it over and over again, but my comp just wont let me see it. lol cheers, tyler j
  7. i tore down my ea82t and i have cracks in my head!! big suprise huh? anyway, its the two cracks in the one head that worry me, do they look alright? also, how would i go about checking my heads visibly. HOW can i check the "bad" cracks. also do the other ones look alrite. thanks alot guys tyler j.
  8. im finally fixing my ea82t. (headgaskets, oil pump and timing junk) one question though, is this supplier, www.power-auto-parts.com reliable, i mean are the parts quality. thanks, i want to know because the parts i mainly want are well important so are they good? thanks, any help appriciated.
  9. ok thanks very much, great responce, but last night though, i ran into an annoying problem, i cant get my ac compressor off. its got like twelve brackets holding it on, what comes what doesnt? its the kind of problem where you wrench and wrench and nothing ever moves!! anyway, other than that i should be ready, thanks again torxxx. also its a turbo ea82, i thought that was mpfi. oh well thanks again.
  10. im ready to pluck my first subie engine! its in a gl10. so i have just a few questions. what should i do with the intake? there are so many hoses and pipes, i dont know what to do, should i pluck it all as one unit or alone?? also what things should come of the engine before removal, other than p/s, and ac? keep in mind illl need to replace the headgaskets at the least so i will need to address the intake problem eventually. im sure theres more but i cant thinks as of now. thanks alot tyler j
  11. i just did mine a bout a week ago in my 80 hatch. when i would stomp on the brakes it would nose dive horribly, i dont think the rears were even working. i threw on the disks, and it locks all 4 wheels up on a nice jab of the pedal. stops WAY better, its awsome now. id recomend it to everyone, espeially the ones that think there drums are fine.
  12. thanks i thought of a hot air gun but i dont have one. mines not old enough yet, it just gooey. ill see, i like the idea of freezing it though.
  13. Well, im sure glad, i went to the local pull your part and i picked up rear discks off of a loyal. They fit and look beautiful! and MAN do they work better than the drums!! i dont think my drums were even adjusted right when i got the car so all i had working were the front disks. anyway, it worked, on my 1980 hatch, and i thought that it was a gen 1. now its time for more mods. anyway my question i stripped my interior, and i want to get rid of that horrible tar crap that they lay down beneath the insulation. are there any ways to get rid of it? any help appriciated. thanks alot, tyler j.
  14. bushbasher, it is indeed an ea71, sorry for any confusion, i was under the impression that the 1980s were ea71s. hell i dont know kinda confusing.
  15. ok dr rx, my mistake, shesh, i just really enjoy writing and playing with words, and well reading my first post i thought it pointed to that i wanted to just use subaru parts. now i completely agree with you in that i should go out and just try, but its already been done, and well im not one that absoulutely has to learn from my and only my mistakes. if 15 people completed an engine swap and someone came on asking about it, i think telling him to just try and hope might not exactly be the most helpful responce. also the local "pull you part" is quite a while away so i cant just make quick runs. thanks for the input, tyler
  16. now that was helpfull thanks bushbasher. if you have any remidies for the suspension, keep me posted, im goin searchin... . again. thanks
  17. soobme, thanks for the shock info by the way. bushbasher, i agree with your first paragraph, that lies ahead though, your second paragraph told me what i already know. in the corners when i have the rear of my car sliding, it feel like the top is leaning and just pulling the bottom of my car. (hard to explain.) so when im hitting these little birms while sliding arround the corners, it doesnt feel like my car will stay upright. i do need stiffer shocks but im trying to figure out which ones will fit. thanks im pretty sure im just going to get the shocks, that doesnt really matter all that much anyways, but i really would like to know about the power steering and rear disk brakes. thanks for the info and suggestions. tyler
  18. well now i cant say that a subaru pre runner wouldnt be AWSOME!! but thats not what i want. (out of my subaru at least.) no rather i just want to upgrade the suspension a little. all i do is rally my car in the local trails and dirt roads. i dont aim for bumps or gullies if thats what u think. and if any one had any tips and tricks i would be happy to give a hearing ear. thats all. so let me rephrase my questions one more time. 1.) will the rear shocks/struts/coilovers whatever fit onto my car? they really look like they will. will it be benificial? it should be. 2.) will the rear disk setup from a loyale or gl10 fit onto my car? 3.) i need info for a powersteering swap. what donor cars will be useful, and waht should i look out for? hell will it even work? thanks alot guys, i plan to put a little money in my car, tomorrow actually, so the info will really hit the spot. thank again and i await your responces. tyler j
  19. well hondasucks just said that ya need the front disks to make it work and lukr, you just said that youve actually did it. so are you saying that you did a rear disk to rear disk swap, or did you use the front setup like hondasucks just said was needed? oh well im nice and confused now. im REALLY lookin into this and would like the info. thanks.
  20. thanks carfreak, Dr rx, take a look , "aftermarket", what i meant by that is that i wanted to know what other SUBARU parts from other late model SUBARUS would fit, as in would i be able to do a rear disk setup on my gen 1 car, perhaps from a gl10 or loyale? i know theres a thread going on right now too. would i be able to fit the rear coilover shocks or struts (whatever) from a loyale or a gl10. i know i know i know that AEM and preformance parts manufacturers dont make "go fast" goodies for our cars. and i dont care if they do, BUT i was really just looking for INTERCHANGEABLE parts that would be slight upgrades. ya know. i shoulda been more clear. THATS waht im lookin for. thanks again all. tyler
  21. ok ill just go and hope whatever i pick up fits. later tyler
  22. i have a 1980 gl hatchback, 4wd 4 spd. i dont wanta mud slinging off roader. RALLY x ok ive been rally-ing arround in the nearby deserts in tucson, and well, id like to know what mods, mainly suspension mods i should do. does anyone have any cool suggestions/mods that i can do so that i have a better handler and a car that can take some bumps. the tracks i run on are curvy, usually s curves with small quad birms. what suspension mods are available. should i go with harder shocks? PS(i dont like body roll) if so what others will fit?waht combo would be best so that i can hit the bumps i have around here and still be able to turn without toppling. also im lookin to do a rear disk setup. i know the swap can be done but i havnt heard it being done on my year. will it work. and probably the most important. id like power steering. ive searched but came up with no useable info on the swap. what cars should i look for with PS that i can rob from? and what parts will i need to complete the swap. ill be hearding to junkyards tomorrow so id like a list of "useable" cars for my scavenging. im pretty sure thats all for now. thanks a LOT guys tyler j
  23. i think your car looks B..E..A..UTIFUL! i really like the last three pics, (front and back/side.) umm umm good! i dont think ive ever seen those puggers before. oh and your off road lights look a bit off center. i think right now it looks mean, so lowering it would be like neutering it. j/k looks great keep up the good work. tyler
  24. great thanks, it sure is a beauty. just lookin arround for mods or little things i can do to my hatch. thanks tyler
  25. hey i was checkin out the photo gallery and i saw this beautifull blue roo. http://usmb.net/gallery/album133/IM_A0059 umm umm good. clean body ,anyway, whos is that and what mods have been done to the beast? it almost looks like the body's on a toyota frame or something, (looks like solid truck axles) well just wanted to know and get some info on it. thanks tyler
