i was looking at some L.L.bean outbacks on ebay and they all had these strange buttons, the blue "on" button and the red cross button.

so my question is : what er they for ?:confused:23.jpg

These are the "ON-STAR" controls. Added to Subaru Outback/Legacy line when GM was part owner of the product. Some who own these are having trouble keeping up their subscriptions because GM no longer owns any part of Subaru.

So they are now decorations.......

so it´s some kind of a 911 service ? (i live in iceland and have never seen this before)

Yes. You push the button and get an instant link to an emergency service that can unlock your doors, call an ambulance, call a tow truck, etc...

Would you need them to unlock your doors if you're already inside the vehicle?

my wife drives a company car on occasion which has similar buttons. the company does not subscribe to the service, but when my son acidently pushed it, the operator came online ans asked what was the emergency, just like 911.

apparently it's like a 911 call and has to be answered even if you don't pay your bill. of course they don't have to act unless it's an actual emergency.

You can call the onstar service via telephone. They can unlock your doors when your locked out.

Duh, man. Haven't you listened to the radio commercials?

YOU CAN CALL THEM VIA TELEFONO!

I havent heard one fo those commericials in a long time....oo yea I don't hear no stinking commericals anymore.

How much does that on-star service cost? I'm guessing it must be like $25 a month. I don't know that I'd want to pay that much for what it offers. I mean if you already have a cell phone and don't make a habit of locking your keys in the car and not having any spares then...

i've heard it's as low as 11$ a month, but i'd very surprised if it is. more like 15$ i think.
