idosubaru
coolant temperature sensor. check the contacts where it plugs onto the sensor. it's never the sensor that is bad, it's the contacts on the plug. i have a permanent fix to this problem posted. your CEL should come on, but i've seen once before where a CEL didn't come on when the CTS was bad. 86subaru
check cap, wires, plugs, fuel filter changed, timming right on, seems to be a vacuum leak around the passanger side towards the fender , but could not find anything wrong
NorthWet
CTS is a variable thermoresistor. If its apparent resistance changes due to connector corrosion, it is likely to still be within "spec" but indicating a temp way different from reality. 86subaru
i do have a new 1 that i can put in ? oem in fact ,it only happens on cold start ups, and lasts a few miles, another subaru person said it could be a smog censor behind the glove box ,after the car warms up a few miles it is ok,, like a timer
NorthWet
I can't think of what sensor he would be talking about. The CTS itself doesn't seem to go bad often, but the connection seems to be the usual problem. grossgary has done some nice write-ups on this problem; I went with his advice and have soldered wires directly to the CTS and put the connector somewheres serrviceable and less prone to corrosion. daeron
We run 87 octane all of the time without any noticeable issues. most of us here in EA82 land tend to run high-test, but the rule of thumb is that you should run the lowest octane fuel your engine will tolerate without pinging. In other words, if she runs fine on 87 octane, then she IS fine on 87 octane. Unfortuantely, this also means that you run 87 octane, and your engine develops a problem, you need to keep the possibility of needing higher octane fuel in mind. The FPR is pretty simple, and the only differences might be attachment details, base pressure, and flowrate (totally guessing here).
