December 20, 200619 yr Well car has 229k miles on it and I knew it was gonna have problems since I bought it for $500 , but no biggie. Anyways......... I did the Tbelt and pullies the other day and after I did the job I have troubles starting it when cold. Got a CEL and it was #13 Cam Angle Sensor. Then a wekk later , today, I throttle it to pass a semi and then the CEL comes on. I check the codes and now I get . 13 - Camshaft Position sensor 35 - Purge Control Selenoid 42 - Idle Switch. How much fun am I having ?
December 20, 200619 yr What year & model car is it? Have you tried clearing the codes, and seeing what comes back?
December 20, 200619 yr Have you rechecked the cam timing to make sure it is not a tooth off? Pugre control solenoids are a very common failure.
December 22, 200619 yr Author I just cleared the codes yesterday and nothing has come back. I just cleaned the IAC with alittle Deep Creep to the IAC while it was running . Idle seems alittle smoother. Still havent been able to get it to start easily when cold. Starts fine when at normal op. temp.
December 22, 200619 yr COld start is the cam sensor. It has a bad connection internally that is slowly going open. When the car warms up it expands and closes the circuit. This failure wont show up on startup since the car doesnt store codes untill the car starts, not while it cranks. Eventually the car wont start anymore. nipper
December 22, 200619 yr Author I did have the code for the cam sensor. I unplugged the unit and cleaned the dirt and grim off of it. Seemed to help alittle. I dont get that code anymore , but it wont start without me holding the gas pedal alittle upon initial cold start. Starts fine when at op temp.
December 22, 200619 yr Author No. Purchased the car recently from a 1 owner. Has 229k miles. Well cared for , as far as oil chnages and what not , but thats it. I was kinda leaning towards the ECTS.
