Does a fuse go in the FWD box??

Featured Replies

Have a 89 Loyal AWD Turbo wagon. Under the hood near the firewall just above the brake master cylinder is a small black box labeled FWD. It looks like a fuse could go there. Is there supposed to be one and if so what amp?

If you place a fuse in that holder, it will put the transmission into FWD mode only. There should be info in the owner's manual if you have it.

Only use the FWD fuse if you have to. It will not provide any increase in gas mileage like one might suspect.

Thanks for the info. Owners manual is gone.

FWD (putting the fuse in) is used for diagnostics and smog testing. Most smog testing places don't even both though.

Its also for driving on a donut spare.

FYI, not to be picky but if you got an '89, It's not a Loyale, it's a GL or GL-10

they are essentialy the same car but it can make for confusion in here and you'll get some feathers ruffled 'round here if you don't know the lingo.:)

Which is why we should go by the JDM name, Leone

or european, L-series ;)

in fact, I've heard many names for the same car, L1 and L2, L-series, leone1 and leone2, the names here, loyale, gen1 and so on, and of course the AU members call them brumby, vortex and what not

Well it says Loyale on the side and the build date is 01/89 if that makes a difference.

Hmmm. Someone could have replaced the original rubber side strips. Or maybe they started making the '90 models a year early.
