Steering wanders, right front wheel moves a lot!

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am getting worried about my 92 Legacy. It is starting to jerk to the right with ruts or steering wheel movement, and when jacked up the wheel will move around so much that it looks like the brakes are the only thing holding it on the car!

I am assuming it is bearings, How hard is it to do bearings on a Legacy?

wait, when u say that, you mean the entire wheel wobbles every way?? Or u mean with the steering, might be the bushing for the steering. If it wobbles as much as u say, i suggest not driving it:eek:

If you have that much freeplay in all directions then you may need a hub too.

nipper

sounds the bearings/hub are all shot. but, the axle nut isn't loose is it? sometimes the axle nut can back off to the point that only the cotter pin is retaining it and it's too loose to hold the wheel solidly in place. they should have noticed that if they put it in on a lift and looked at it though.

is this accompanied by any noises at all? i'd replace the entire hub like they said if it's that bad. while it's off be sure to check the ball joint and tie rod end link as well.
