February 16, 200719 yr So I have an 83 FSM here that was falling apart. I was about to debind it, and three hole punch it and throw it in a binder. Then, I found the school had just bought an Automatic Document Feeder for the scanner.... Here's what I've been working on: http://mshoup.us/docs/fsm/EA81/83/ The largest problem I've been having, is the scanner only scans one side at a time. I've been using Acrobat Professional, and I get a pdf of the odd pages, and a pdf of the even pages. Its a royal PITA to manually merge the two PDFs. I could do chapter 1 since its so few pages easily. When I'm done with it all, I'll let you know.
February 17, 200719 yr that rocks! too bad it's not '81-'82... but close enough that I could use it for reference once it's done... --Spiffy
February 17, 200719 yr   Its of no practical value to ME, but thats awesome of you, man!! *HUGE* pat on the back.
February 17, 200719 yr Author that rocks! too bad it's not '81-'82... but close enough that I could use it for reference once it's done... Don't worry, I've got that covered. My coworker has an 82 FSM held together by duct tape. He wants it scanned in too
February 17, 200719 yr Author I ended up writing a perl script to order the pages. I'm up to Chapter 6. I'm gonna work on it more tomorrow. http://mshoup.us/docs/fsm/EA81/83/
February 19, 200719 yr Author Very nice, Where would somebody find a FSM eBay is where I find mine mostly, and a couple from family members who owned an old Subaru back in the day. SoA still has some of them in stock. Just need to find the part numbers.
February 26, 200719 yr Author I've got more chapters up. With any luck, I'll be finished tonight. EDIT: Have all but the large Chapter 15... I'll get that scanned a little later.
February 26, 200719 yr Author All done! Note: Chapter 9 IS missing a page. That page is long lost. Only thing not scanned in are the large wiring diagrams at the end of the book. Haven't found a suitable method to scan those in.
February 26, 200719 yr Only thing not scanned in are the large wiring diagrams at the end of the book. Haven't found a suitable method to scan those in. possibly scan one page at a time, in as BMPs, and copy and paste them together in paintbrush, then convert to PDF format? or include as files to download next to the FSM? paintbrush now saves in many file formats, too...
June 22, 200718 yr I just want to reiterate that you are my hero! I have the PDFs saved to my computer and use them all the time now.
