My friend has a '98 that she says made a knocking sound, died, and now won't turn over. I put a fully charged battery in it. When I turn the key I can hear a relay click under the dash some where, but NOT the starter solinoid. Is there a start relay somewhere I need to check out? Does anyone have a schematic that would be helpful?

The car also returned one PO335 which I reset, but still no joy.

Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks in advance!

Does it turn over by hand? 22mm nut on the front pulley.

You can jump the starter directly from the battery. at the back of the starter the is one plug which gives power to the sol. The main positive lead and that's it.

Always check the battery terminals and cables for corrosion.

Do check all bat cable connections.

Unplug the small spade connector on the starter,

put a test light on the wire, ground the other

wire from the test light

and see if the light

lights when the key is turned.

might want to pull the spark plugs out and try

turning it by hand.

Coolant seaped into cyl from bad HG caused hydro lock.

knocking sound => not good

rods have been known to go into wierd places

ask Nipper

Mine wasnt weird, It was nice and convenient sitting on top of the engine outside the block.

This doesnt sound good. First off the trouble code is the crankshaft position senor. If its dead the car wont start, but it will crank.

Start with basics. Check ALL the fluids to make sure there is no cross contamination.

As was stated before try turning the engine by hand first. Then nex look at the starter solenoid contacts (easy repair).

Find out when was the last oil change, and when was the last timing belt change. How many miles are on the car.

A knock that is noticable from the drivers seat followed by a stall is never a good thing.

good luck.
