98 Forester DOHC or SOHC?

Featured Replies

I believe that the 98 Forester is a DOHC. Can anyone confirm?

Also, I may have to replace the engine. Can I put in a 95 automatic 2.2

in this 98 Forester automatic?

Another question. It looks like the horn, cruse control, heated seats, and electric mirrors don't work. I saw thread that stated that the clock spring could be the problem ffor some of this. Any opinions on this?

horn cruise control is the clock spring.

Heated seats and mirrors most likely a fuse or relay someplace. no reason the heated mirrors both shouldnt work.

Heated seats the drivers upper half may not work, but the lower should (will work on high but not low).

Yes you can put a 2.2 in place of a 2.5, the years someone else will chime in on.

the 98 should be a dohc as the 99 is the sohc.

Thanks Nipper. The Air bag is also not working and that appears to be a clock spring symptom as well.

I pick this up tomorrow---with a car trailer. The t-belt or water pump broke and caused unknown damage so this will be a bit of a science project.

Does anyone have the part number for the clock spring?

I don't know about the clock spring. But how much would you want for the heads and intake manifold off the 2.5

Not sure if the engine is DOA or not yet. I will know more next week on the heads and intake.

I hope its not just for the sake of saving you some money on swapping another motor into it. But if it's dead and the heads are in decend shape just hit me a pm whenever.

Just keeping my options open. I think the 2.5 rebuild will probably be the way I go, but ya never know.
