July 3, 200718 yr Author I would guess I have a better chance at finding proper sized studs BUT, there is one slight (major) problem we don't even have 1/10 of the carshop you guys have, things like a mufflershop, import car parts, al those things, don't excist here, there are a couple of generic car parts stores, where you can buy the muffler for your 1995 VW golf, but that's it so sure, those studs excist, but there no chance in hell that I would actually find them No junkyards?

I DO know that junkyards are fewer and farther between over there (real estate values in the old world are NOT something that us "colonists" can comprehend ) but, do you have any mechanic or parts desk people who know you and might be willing to help you do a little research?

Thats not a bad idea, its just trying to find some willing and that has enough time on their hands to go into that much depth. I will look on one of my websites and see if I can find something. Thanks for the insight
July 5, 200718 yr Well, my hope was honestly that they might be more common original equipment in europe than in the states.. maybe the threads like that are standard on a Fiat or something, i dont know... I DO know that junkyards are fewer and farther between over there (real estate values in the old world are NOT something that us "colonists" can comprehend ) but, do you have any mechanic or parts desk people who know you and might be willing to help you do a little research? you're right, we use the metric system so there are probably another 5 cars or something with this thread, but finding them is the hard part :-\ as you say, junkyards don't really excist, we have "dismantlers" where you can "order" your parts and they collect it for you, no scrounging around or anything. the problem with finding someone who can search through his books is that there is noone I can think of, who has acces to the books of all the makes, in other words, I would have to visit the dealers from each make and then let them search through their catalogs or something nobody is willing to do this kind of stuff.... come to think of it, maybe... I know a company that specialises in rebuilding jap engines, perhaps they know something... I can ask, but I'm going to italy tomorrow for 10 days, so you'll have to be patient
July 5, 200718 yr Author OOh I am patiant. I have been working on this project for about 3 years now. A am going to try to build it as "perfect" as I can which takes time!:slobber::-\:-\
July 19, 200718 yr Whle I do beleive that this is a bit insane, and would rather swap an EJ motor into a brat, this should be fun to watch. Kudos to you for trying it, and I hope it all comes together for you, AND, bless your wife, mine would kill me.... Lewis BTW: how are the dimensions of the ER27 Vs. the brat engine bay???
July 19, 200718 yr Author I drew a 3d dimensionally accurate engine bay of the brat. The 4 inner bolts are where the brats crossmember mount to the frame. The 4 outer bolts are where the xt6's crossmember mount to the frame. So basically the bolts do mount farther appart. Also the width between the frame rails on the brat are obviously narrower then the xt6's. What I have to do is cut the frame rails and build them up on the outside closer to the wheels. It shouldnt be to hard with a cutoff wheel and a welder. I plan on adding on some additional material to add extra strength and help prevent frame twist at hard revs.
July 20, 200718 yr hey gravityman(would say your actual name but i dont know it:-\ ) when do you think this project will be completed? i've been reading it forever and i keep waiting to see the post where your saying "ITS A SUCCESS"!!!!! i cant wait to see it
July 20, 200718 yr Author uuummm, Eeerrrr...:-\ Well thats a good question that brings up a good thought, I need to call my mechanic. I am working on what I can occasionally. Since I just bought my house I need to remodel the kitchen in a big way. So in other words the project is mildly put on hold. When I get my engine back from the machine shop I can send it off to get cyro treated and get the rest of the head ceramic coated. I am getting sent away again with the military so that will postpone the project for a while longer. I am hoping that I will have the engine and all of its components running by the end of next year. Dont get me wrong it will take time to finish this project. I want to cover all of my bases and do every thing right.

August 29, 200718 yr I thought you wanted an update. Thanks dude, how far are you from the blue ridge parkway? or mt airy? my grandmother lives in southern va just off of the parkway and if i ever get down that way again, i want to see your set up in person, its kinda like what i have planned for my ea82t. thats if you wouldnt mind meeting up or something. granted, it might be a whilewith my chemo schedule and such. but yeah, id really like to see what you got in person if possible. keep up the good work man.
August 29, 200718 yr Author Thanks buddy! I hate to say this but I wont be able to work on this again for about 5 months, work reasons. I am really bummed about it! Once I get back I should be able to get this thing up and running. I dont mind if you come out and check it out, I'd be honored but mabe sometime after February. I still need the heads ported and flowed and new cams. I think I am going to be powdercoating the whole engine. It still has barnicals all over it. I am going to have to sandblast it all off and P/C it. I am still far from turning the engine over unless someone wants to send about 5K my way.
August 29, 200718 yr i probably wouldnt be able to make it down anywhere till next year anyways, i still have to worry about chemo for the next three months or so. but maybe ill have my brat set up by then and ill be able to roll down in that. one could only hope, lol. keep up the good work though, i cant wait to see how everything turns out.

August 30, 200718 yr Author ditto on the chemo! It would be great to meet up with you later, just let me know the time and I am there! Thanks!
October 22, 200718 yr woh! cant wait to see how many horses will be galloping !!! ER27TT sounds Awsome
October 22, 200718 yr Author Thats a good question. How much power do you think an ER27 could make with a fully custom built engine best internals / externals and turbocharged with custom ECU? I guess what I am asking is how much power do you think that engine can handle?

I guess what I am asking is how much power do you think that engine can handle? Aren't you the one building it? I'd expect you to have a much better idea than anybody since you have done all the research. :-p (Hope that didn't seem mean. :-\) Love the project and, like everybody else, I can't wait to see it done. Rock on!

I guess what I am asking is how much power do you think that engine can handle? well from what i've seen on this msg board, the er27 can barely handle itself due to issues with the heads and what not. but you should be able to get some good power outta that thing. if that thing runs at 150hp stock, with twin turbos id expect that thing to be running around around 250hp with a fair amount of boost. fyi, the rx that ran in the wrc was an Ea82T boosted up to 15+ lbs of boost:eek: ...thats rediculous to think of:grin:  good luck man!!!! -Dalton
