I have a 98 Forester with no cruise, horn and the Air Bag light on the dash is on. I searched this site and it looked like a clock spring. I replaced the clock spring and fixed the horn and Cruise Control.

 

Air bag light is still on.

 

Suggestions --Ideas anyone??

 

The airbag puter may need to be reset. You can try the disconnect the battery trick, or have a sooby dealer do it. I dont know if disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes will reset it or not.

body shop should have good experience with this as well and would likely be cheaper than Subaru. for an air bag light might be nice to have them check it out anyway.

I will try the battery disconnect in the AM and see if that works. Next step will be the dealer I think if that doesn't work.

You can check your codes (see attached) then erase them

The connector is either by the gas pedal or it could be on the left side of the dash, just behind the fuse box

Should be right beside the 2 green check connectors , that will be disconnected

You will have to pull the black ground leads out that are taped to the harrness(diag terminal )

SEA#3, Thanks for the info. I wil try this later today.

I see the connector to test, but I also saw a green plug under the dash left of the steering wheel. It was not connected and I thought that it should be per other Air bag posts.

 

I had disconnected the battery for about an hour at this point. I re-connected the green plug and started it up. The Air bag light did not turn off and now there is a clicking sound coming form the same area as the green plug and interestingly enough,the clock above the RV mirror, and temp/barometer compass goes from bright to normal coinciding with the clicking noise. Anybody know what the hell I did?

 

I did have a check engine light when the green plug was connected, but it went away after the green plug was disconnected.

 

I have disconnected the battery again and will see if that clears it up, but how wierd was that?

 

Anybody know what this means when the clock and info display does this? It is also making the emergency lights flash through an identical sequence. They are on flashing and then off for a while. Then, they come back on. Damit, I shoudl have read SEA#3;s post a little slower. He mentioned that they were not connected.

 

 

Maybe this all relates to the AIR bag problem?

It might be the security system making the hazards flash. Do you still have the key fob with the lock/unlock buttons? Disconnecting and then reconnecting the battery will set of the alarm.

The green connector was for a reference point only , it should be left disconnected

I don't have a key FOB. I wonder if I could add one easily later.

 

Open the drivers door, turn ignition to on, press and *hold programming button*under dashboard. After 15 seconds the doors will cycle 3 times. Do not relase the programming button. Press lock button on remote if you have one. Locks will cycle 1 time. Exit programming mode by realsing button under dash and turn key to off. This button must be pressed if you are programming remotes or if the battery was disconnected and the lights were already flashing.

That was it. The Air bag light is still on, but the flashing dash and emergency lights are off.

 

No small animal sacrifice needed, but I was on one foot.
