xt6 clutch in a GL

Featured Replies

what all do you need to use to make an xt6 clutch work on a GL? Will the pressure plate and clutch disc just bolt up? Or is it a combo of the xt6 and GL parts to make it work? Do you have to do anything to flywheel to make it fit?

is it an EA81 or EA82?

the XT6 clutch won't work straight up in an EA82 GL. it'll need some help....see below....

the clutch disc is the same for ea82 and er27

but the xt6 has a different pressure plate, and the flywheel is surfaced to different specs.

if you just buy a XT6 clutch kit, then get your flywheel turned to the xt6 specs (the shop should know the specs).

I'm running this setup with a 89 GL wagon D/R in my 82 Brat.

You're giving a lot of credit to the shops here thinking the would know specs on a xt6 fly wheel.

What is different about it?

and it is for a ea82, sorry

any shop that turns flywheels would have to have a book that lists the specs for the flywheel. the soob flywheels are stepped, which means they have to turn 2 surfaces. the important spec is the step distance. the XT6 step is smaller, allowing for the pressure plate to be a bit closer to the clutch surface. that combined with a stronger pressure plate equate to more gripping for the clutch disc to handle the higher power output of the XT6....

ok so when i find a shop with those specs, it's just a bolt on thing at that point? Or anything else you can remember you had to do?

right, get your flywheel turned to XT6 specs. if they ask what it's for or what it came out of, tell them XT6.

and use a XT6 clutch kit then.

so no other issues at that point right?

Take it to the NAPA - Beaverton Auto Parts store, they know what they are doing.
