2007 Legacy windshield replacement

Featured Replies

My 2007 Legacy suffered a cracked windshield after less than two months of ownership. (It may have been hit by a small rock, but I think the windshield cracked more easily than it should have.) I just had it replaced, and I'm wondering, has anyone else here replaced the original? Have you had any issues with leaks or other problems?

I'm wondering about that external seal - it doesn't sit flush all the way across. Is that a big deal? As I recall, the corner looked the same with the original windshield.

hopefully someone on here will know. it won't leak, i'd be concerned about rust down the road and would want input as well. trim and gaskets can trap moisture and eventually rust. being so new i'm sure you plan on having this car for some time.

In Montana (and other westeren states) windshield replacement is an almost annual maintenance item. We lost the windshield on our '00 driving it home from the sealer, and on our '06 the third day.

:Flame:That repair is unacceptable, take it back and make them do it right. No shop in Montana (or even he do it at the curb gypsies) would ever produce work like that. It will leak and rust.

Ugh, you really think so? I know that the corner seal looked like that right out of the factory, so I'm not sure how critical that external strip is. But if it needs to be redone, I guess I'd better get it redone.

I just called the glass company, just to make sure it's not a problem. They're supposed to call me back tomorrow and send someone out to look at it.

I saw your pictures and then compared them with the windshield moulding on my 07 OBW. I sure would not accept the job done on your car, particularly with a new car! The moulding on my car is snug all around the glass, and there is no gap between the moulding and the metal. There is no way for water to get in between the two if the glass is installed properly. They blew it on your install.

The guy I spoke to at the glass company didn't seem to think there was a problem, and said that the outer moulding isn't even really needed. I dunno...he said I could bring the car over for them to look at if I want. Maybe I should get a second opinion from another place.

'Corse it's not a problem for HIM, it's your car. If he refuses to make it right, have it repaired at a competent shop and take him to small claims for the costs. Who cares what he thinks, you are the customer.

I'll definitely get a second opinion on it. Maybe I'll start following trucks more closely in the hope of getting nailed with another rock! LOL!

Hey VT, small world! I am originally from Honesdale. I often get up your way to visit my family. Who did the install? Mesko? Diamond?

Hey, how about that! It's amazing how many people I run into who are from this little corner of nowhere! :) Diamond did the install.

Diamond is a national corporation. I don't know if the shop is corporate or franchise (prolly the latter) but I'm sure the local manager doesn't want complaint letters and photos going upstream to the higher levels. If he balks, just ask for his regional supervisor's contact information since he can't make it right. I think he'll allovasudden decide maybe he should have a go at it again.
