Pinging!

Featured Replies

I have been having some pinging problems with my '90 legacy... I used some good quality fuel systen cleaner (redline) and I changed the plugs and I have been running good quality gas (chevron premium) -- any suggestions? The pinging only happens when it is warm outside...

Ahhhhhhhhhh

The first pinging thread of summer .....

you can try going down a heat range in spark plugs.

What exactly do I ask for at the parts store? I tried this before but the people at the parts store dont have a clue to what I am talking about! They don't know about any other parts than what their computer says goes with the car...

Tried it all on my 2000 Legacy GT, cooler plugs, higher grade gas, Scientology...no difference.

It's just another sound of summer. I get the feeling there is a missing link in the sensor department that would adjust for air and humidity...

also check to make sure the EGR valve is functioning. Not all ping is bad and avoidable.

In addition to the other suggestions, I would note that pinging can be caused by carbon buildup. Misting water into the inlet track will clean the cylinders (and smoke out the neighborhood).
