New seats

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if seats from an '06 WRX will swap into a '99 outback with minimal modifications?

It is pretty much a Direct swap. The only thing you may need to do is add some spacer washers to the side that bolts up nearest the to the exhaust/driveshaft channel. Impreza seats/brackets are just a touch narrow compared to the Legacy.

Excellent, thanks both of you. Now, does either of you know how to convince my wife that this is a totally necessary change?

When put 2002 WRX seats into my OBS it was a direct swap. There is a guy here called Jamal that put a set into his legacy. It's the older square body styled one. We both experienced less head room b/c the seat mounts are taller.

Regarding the wife... I installed them and I asked her... hey.. do you notice a difference. She looked at me and said 'no...but the colors don't match"

That might work. I don't think she'd notice the difference, but she may notice a $500+ deduction from our checking account! :-\

Yeah... that's a tough one to get around.

Luckily I got mine from a buddy for $50.00. I also installed the old seats into the BRAT so I killed two birds w/one stone.

Good luck w/the swap. If you can swing it. it's worth it b/c the seats are a lot better than the stockers.

Yeah these seats are killing me. But I don't exactly drive it every day. This is more of a bad-weather sort of car. My wife's Prius doesn't like snow and muck and such. Where as the subie luvs it! So I might just save the cash until it gets closer to winter, then worry about it. There's plenty of other projects clammering for my hard-earned cash!

Aha! that's why my seat doesn't move forward and back very smoothly.

Also you should note that the 02-03 seats (which I have), sit lower than 04-06 seats. Even with the height adjustment all the way down my seat is about an inch higher and I couldn't find an easy way to swap or modify the rails to lower them. If I were shorter it wouldn't be a problem but as it is I plan to find something lower. The added bolstering is worth it though, especially the way I drive.
