voltage

Featured Replies

I'm having trouble with the voltage on my 86 GL.When it's started the voltage gauge will be at almost 18 then after a bit (driving about 10 min.) will drop down to about 12.This keeps going on,from 18 back down to around 12 then back to 18.

Will this burn something up ? What could be causing this ? Thanks

Yes this can burn something up, it can fry the battery , burn out bulbs damage electronics.

You need an altenator.

Usually burns the alternator up. Then the subsequent driving on battery power drains it pretty good. I went through this multiple times in my Brat.

Thank you!! You was right on,replaced it and fired it up,voltage is right where it's suppose to be and stays there..

Great place you have here,, Thanks men:headbang:

I have the very same issue (as well as a few others!). I am going to pop my new (used from a board member-$25!) alt in this afternoon when I put a pin on my crank pully. It spun off twice yesterday:dead: :burnout:

New (used) alt. installed- Voltage OK. It was definatly getting high (18V) volts when it was spinnin fast, and low (10V) volts when at idle. We'll see how long this one goes for!!! If anyone has another cheap spare for me, let me know;)
