  1. The euro jr. that gloyale mentioned is great. The one w/ the sliding lock? Yeah. I put mine on top of the change try next to the ebrake. Worked great. Never in the way at all. never spill or tip.:-p
  2. I didn't read all the replies... I don't have time right now. But the biggest reason (besides all the tech help that just oozes out of the forum) is that I feel like I have friends here. Plain and simple:)
  3. You think the skateboard helps w/ stability?
  4. Dan, hows she drivin now? How much are you selling it for? Too bad ya moved so far away (ahh, for me that is!)
  5. Actually I have seen this front wheel set up before. It was made by a real company to slide in a 2' reciever... I have had the same "gotta get the car and bike somewhere" blues.. I took a plane back for the bike:) Look online for some pics of it to get an idea. You would'nt even know its back there. Honestly dude, you'd never even know the bike was back there on a small trailer like we talked about. Just drive like an old man, keep a few more feet between. Borrow a trailer and try it out if possible. You will see its not a problem. You're not towing much weight. Make the trailer deck (of that 4'x4' trailer) so it cover part of the toung so its long enuff for your bike. Just make sure of how you strap it up, not leaning on the kick stand! Straight up, w/ 4 RATCHET straps. 4 corners at angles so it is rock solid. You should be able to shake the heck out of the bike and it should stay ridgid on the trailer. Try to make a front wheel mount up there to keep 'er straight. Wish I had pic of my bikes on trailers to show ya better. Last thing we want is your bike passing you in a curve on the highway!
  6. Hey lost- You will have no problem towing your bike. Keep your trailer as light as possible (some folks use so much steel its crazy). Ever seen the 4' x 4' trailer Menards sells? The little red ones? Think along those lines. The car will be fine, just keep in mind you will be slow to start and stop. I towed my boat all over, launched it, everything. As far as towing anything else, I've never had a problem. I towed a broken down cherokee home @25mph! Do you have any real towing experiance? Hopefully Gloyale will chime in- He just moved back to Oragon from Wisconsin towing a trailer FULL of crap. He is the one to talk to about it. How are you doing your hitch? That would be the "weak link" if not done right. There are lots of suggestions floating around here.
  7. Connie, I am truly jelous! Man, I wish I could hook a west coaster!
  8. Nice car. I know Gloyale has a lot of FSM's... Maybe try to send him a PM about it. He has helped me alot.
  9. I didn't read all the posts here, but I feel the very same way... I want a D/R FI wagon!
  10. I just became soobless a couple weeks ago! Its gonna be a little while before I get another one. Its too bad they don't still make the D/R wagon in one form or another.
  11. Hey ya know... You bought a used car for 2 grand, thats alot of money to most people. But it is certainly not 20 grand, right? For 20 grand it had better be perfect, not for 2 grand. But you bought it, paid most of the money (he was even nice enough to spot you on some of it...$140= an ounce?)and took it away. Now you are complaining and talking trash about this guy? Thats really not cool cuz it sounds to me like you (or you wife?) are unhappy w/ your purchase. What do you want to happen? Basically, you bought a used car. End of story.
  12. I agree, but the manual for my outboard was on a CD and it worked OK. Couldn't find it anywhere else! Come to think of it, my '61 F250 manual was on CD also. They work OK... You could print it all up and put it together and take it with ya I suppose!
  13. I banged the ring up pretty bad w/ a punch/chisle and hammer. In the end I had to use a die grinder to cut out the "bad" spots around the ring. Where it is punched in to lock the ring, I had to cut some of that away to unlock it. It is a tricky setup... has anyone ever gotten it out w/o banging the piss out of it?
  14. Well, my first roo.... I belive it was an 83 wagon? I was only like 14 I guess. We got it for $300 to cut up for a dune buggy, not knowing it already was a dunebuggy! We cut off the top, made roll bars (that would have folded right over:dead: ) and pulled the motor. But thats as far as it got. We smoked alot of weed while ripping it apart, then called Victory auto wreckers to haul it away. I have a few poloroid pictures, but no scanner ( or whatever would allow me to post poloroids!) Man, them were the days!!
  15. I went round and round with some east coast beach fishermen about this. Can a soob drive on the beach? C'Mon! Of course it can, and will! Be a smart driver, know what you can and can't do. Insane amounts of money and horsepower can overcome alot, but a fool in a 4x4 is just that! I'd rather be a smart guy in a small soob than a brain dead moron in a monster truck. We've all been stuck, yet here we all are:banana:
  16. All I was going to do to fix it was make a small metal part (or bend the existing shaft) so it hung on the outside of the "slot" the handle used to pass thru. All that you need is to be able to push that rod down to unlatch the door. The lock works seperatly, so this cheap fix won't affect locking up the car. It should be easy, I just never did it... It was the last time we took the car out w/ the rowboat. Last time I really used the hatch, ya know. And as far as the tbelt covers... I left them off cuz they are a huge pain in the butt. Only problem I had was when I plowed thru a 3 foot snow drift on a back road. Didn't know the road dipped and hit it doing like 30 or so. Snow packed into the engine bay and forced the belts off the pullys. Never saw anything like it. Next day, I put the same belts back on, timed it and off we went. Amazing little cars! Personally, I would (did) leave them off. Just carry that PCI kit off road or on road trips!
  17. I finally found a good new home for the Loyale. I need the bigger towing capacity of the cherokee, but I still love my soob. What a total bummer! So, Goatcheez came out to pick it up. Maybe he'll post about it... Hope he is happy- I know I was! Anyway, the bug is already itching and its only been gone 15 min.! I know I'll get another soob someday. Hopefully something like the Mountain Griz. Hopefully by then I'll be in a land where it can be enjoyed... not around here thats for sure! Anyway, I'll be around to add my 2 cents every now and then. Thanks for all the help guys!
  18. It would probably be easier to swap in a DR into a 5 sp. 4x4 loyale... Wanna buy mine? You're in MI, I'm in northern IL. I'll drive it up if you'll drive me back:banana:
  19. Sorry to be digging up the dead, but this thread is inspiring. I have just recently fallen prey to a 99 cherokee. The thing sucks, and not just gas! I feel un- sure footed all the time. I can't even imagine how squirrly it will be in the snow and ice. I got it cuz the soob is so border line towing my bigger boat. It pulls it ok, but I was scared of long steep boat ramps. I gotta say, especially after reading these 7 pages, I'm glad the Loyale is still in my driveway. I don't quite know its fate yet, but my better half (Wife in 2 weeks:banana: ) says I should keep it.... Does she mean keep it AND the cherokee? Who knows, but I really miss driving it and its only been a week! Everyone warned me about this, guess I was just trying to fool myself! At $50 a tank for the jeep (Just Empty Every Pocket) and it only gets 300 miles out of it! I put about $28 in the Loyale and go for about 380 miles! WTF was I thinking? Thanks to everyone who responded to Buddys post, it has re- opened my eyes to the reality of the Soob. Inexpensive, and built to stay that way!
  20. The mod to keep the gasket from sucking in is actually pretty good. You will need a mill or drill press (or a crazy steady hand) and a small piece of copper tubing. Enlarge the suction port just enuff and just deep enuff to accept the "ring" you make from the copper tube. It then acts as a wall to keep the gasket in place... Somewhere here is a write up on it w/ pics. I have not done it, but it sounds rock solid.... Just takes some patience and skill in the machine shop, ya know?
