I searched and read about some of the misc. issues involved, but the basic jist seems to be missing. What does it take to swap in an EJ-22 engine into the EA-82 Loyale? I have a D/R tranny I want to put in too. So, can I bolt a EJ-22 up to a EA-82 trans? Doesn't it need an adapter plate? And how about the wiring, is there a lot to rematch and sort out? With or without the EJ harness? What other major stuff will I encounter? Motor or trans mounts? Radaitor swap? Thanks , I hope to make this happen!

Replacing exhaust manifold gaskets...
Milemaker13 replied to Milemaker13's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Cool, sounds easy. I have the 7/16 tap ready and beyond that, I have a helicoil at the ready too! Can you guys tell if these are flat gaskets or the fatter doughnut looking things? -
Hi, I need to replace the left side manifold gasket on the EA82 loyale wagon. How difficult is this? I assume it is just the four bolts holding the y- pipe on and the one hanger bolt on the y-pipe, and that should allow it to sag plenty to put new gaskets in right? What kind of gaskets are these? Flat or like doughnuts? I have had trouble locating them, so maybe I'll try the stealer. Cheif Tim, know about what they charged you at the counter? Hopefully by the weekend we wont sound like a beater jalopy anymore!

I didn't have this much trouble w/ my inbord AC belts. Yeah I got the wrong size at first, but they wre crappy belts anyway. I am running napa belts of the wider variety. Put it into the first groove, then over to the next one... Whats the hold up? I had to remove the AC pulse sensor( or whatever it is) to fit the fat belts between it and the pullys. And like Gloyale said, use a 17mm wrench on the idler/tensioner arm, then snug the 12mm bolt down.

I think it may happen, gonna trade the Soob
Milemaker13 replied to Milemaker13's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
All good stuff... And the reason to trade the soob is simply driveway space (and $ for plates, insurance, bla bla bla). I won't trade it, they'll probably ADD $200 to my bill just to take it away! :-p I'll sell it to someone... Does anybody know of a jeep - like vehicle for sale near Chicago? -

Yeah, its like a play on words, right? Sounds pretty close, so why not say the Loyale has been very loyale -
No, most every thing is different. I have a 92 loyale and the EA81 stuff is totally different. Just the cabs looks the same right? Not really even there, some body and cabin stuff, but not everything. Do you need anything for your 92 loyale? I have a ton of parts... I even have a D/R tranny if you're interested. You have the push button 4x4 right? Thats the good one there- I like the system alot. You will love it. Just sell your rusty wagon as is... a car fulla parts. Some one here will buy it.. Parts is parts!

It makes me so sad, but today I may end up trading my Loyale for an older jeep cherokee. I like the cherokees, was my first ride, but I love My Loyale... Its been so, well, Loyale to me!! I know I will end up with another soob sooner than later, it is just "where to park it". She will kill me when it does happen, but its an addiction- it must be fed, right? You all have help me out a million times w/ advice, instructions and even parts. I will definatly be directing the new owner to this website to join the family I will always be checking in here, You guys rock- You're the best!

Yep, cut him down to size... $1500 to start! Thats 1/2, then go up to get to 1750 or so! Good luck!

Fuel Dampener Info, FI EA82
Milemaker13 replied to Milemaker13's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks Doug! Thats what I am now wondering.... What will be the effect of just keeping it out and splicing the hoses together? 'Cuz that's what I'm agonna do! -
Fuel Dampener Info, FI EA82
Milemaker13 replied to Milemaker13's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Really? That blows! Where did you get the pump? New or used? How much was it if new? Gloyale and I think it may run w/o it. I think there is another one under the hood. I am going to have to just use a doubble ended barb to splice the hoses together. Thinking about it... does the dampener have a rubber diaphram in it or something? Can I just use an oversized coupler w/ reducers to create a "space" in the line... Ahhh, probably not. That space would fill and become useless... Well, it can't be the only application on earth for a fuel pressure dampener... -
My 92 loyale (FI EA82) has a small device near the fuel pump. It is small and round. I think it is a fuel pressure dampener. It is leaking fuel and needs to be replaced. Can anyone tell me more about this? Where can I get a new one? Can I just splice the hoses and run w/o it? What may happen if I do? Thanks everybody for whatever you got here.... I have no idea about this little part.

I smell gas outside my car!
Milemaker13 replied to Milemaker13's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have found what is leaking, I just don't know what it is... Right by the fuel pump is a small round "pot". Maybe it is a filter or regulator or valve? It has a hose in and a hose out, that's all. Not sure if it is before or after the pump itself. Can you tell me what it is and if I can use a generic part to replace it. I suppose it could just be the tubing that is leaking, but this thing is rusted and soaked in gas. -

Great , Thanks Dan. I'll look there. I remember pulling the pump from that coup. Hey, when are you leaving? I'd still like to make it up there B4 you go! What are you doing later today? -
Noticed the other day that I could smell gas outside my car as I got in and out. I am doing some small repairs today so we can get outta town this weekend. What to check first? Where has your leaks developed? Is there a fuel filter under there somewhere?

Loyale Tail, Dash & Head Light Conundrum
Milemaker13 replied to Milemaker13's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, found them on my spare dash board. All four in a row! So, now I have tried to swap one out and still nothing. I am going to try another, then start testing relays I guess... We are working with the two middle relays, right? The one with the green connector is LH? ********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** Well, I got it! The LH relay (w/ the green connector) was on the far left side in the group of four. The relay power terminals were starting to melt!! So, I put in one of the spare relays and it is working great!! The green connector is the LH lite relay, you all said the black connector was the RH lite relay, right? The other two (blue and white) are for the blower and the rear defroster? Anyone know which is which, just for future reference? -
Loyale Tail, Dash & Head Light Conundrum
Milemaker13 replied to Milemaker13's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It seems to definatly be the LH relay... no power on 6&7 fuses. So I should find them between the steering collom and the drivers side of the car? Near the fuse box? Should I remove the plastic panel to gain access? -
New (used) alt. installed- Voltage OK. It was definatly getting high (18V) volts when it was spinnin fast, and low (10V) volts when at idle. We'll see how long this one goes for!!! If anyone has another cheap spare for me, let me know;)

Loyale Tail, Dash & Head Light Conundrum
Milemaker13 replied to Milemaker13's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Are they on the dash? Cuz I have an entire dash in the shed, remember? I think the relay too, I will check 12v at those 3 fuses. Should shed some light! Thanks Dan! -
Horn, Clock and Hazard quit

Like, can anyone help me with my similar problem? Read my thread "Loyale Dash, Tail and Headlight Conundrum". It is more straight forward than this.. -

Loyale Tail, Dash & Head Light Conundrum
Milemaker13 replied to Milemaker13's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Can anyone tell me where the headlight relays are located? My connectors under the dash are in great shape. My fuses are good, not flakey. -

Milemaker13 replied to mr_whirly's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey Fuggit! Parts is parts! Get some more, stuff 'em in and Away You Go! Just like the bikes, bend a crank, pull your sisters!!! -
I read a few threads about similar problems, but they got very confusing pretty quickly... I have a 94 Loyale. Everything usually works fine, just as they should. Sometimes my dash and tail lights will go out. My headlights are still on, but the left one seems dim. A few bumps later, all the lights come back on. Sometimes after fiddling various switches or stopping and restarting the car. One weird thing is when I have the headlight switch on the first click (only marker, dash and tail lights) the dash lights up, but seems a little dim and slow to light. If I then switch on the head lights (second click) the headlights come on (left one dim) and the dash goes out. If I switch back, the dash slowly relights. I have read about reseating/checking a connector above my peddal assy. Looking at the wiring diagram, I possibly suspect the headlight switch or the lighting relays. Does anyone know where the lighting relays are located? The book says there are two- one for left, one for right. Are there any other things to check? Could faulty bulbs cause this? I am going to check the fuses again, maybe one is kinda flakey. One seperate note, should the parking switch on the collum turn on my tail lights? Maybe I can use that temp. to drive around today. Thanks Everybody!
