Sounds good. The last reason is the best one. Cuz you can and have the machines. Good call! -
Tail lights and rear Fog light

Sounds good actually- On in the fog like a single brake light? I like that idea... Why not? -

Tail lights and rear Fog light
Milemaker13 replied to DL92SW's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Weird- When would you use that "fog light"? I thought it was still a white light. I had a vision of like a tow truck with the flood lights on the back. I'd put the US lenses in, wire your 2nd reverse light to the 1st one. Then add your aftermarket fog lights to the rear and wire them to your dash switch thru the existing fog wires. -
New toy... I mean Sube (85 GL Wagon)
Milemaker13 replied to Andy FitzGibbon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thats certainly a sweet car! Rust free is like gold. What a decision to make... to lift or not to lift. I, personally, would leave it stock. But I would be commuting in it. If its your toy, and you are going to keep it awhile, then do it up. Like I said- rust free is like gold , right Where are you planning to drive it mostly? I wish I had D/R. -
Tail lights and rear Fog light
Milemaker13 replied to DL92SW's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey- Whats a reverse fog lamp? Right , all we have here is 2 reverse lights. Fog lamps? For driving backwards on foggy mornings? Sounds cool! I'd keep that option and ditch the US style 2 rev. lights. You could wire that fog lamp button to some new fog lamps mounted on the rear of the car. Isn't the wiring the same? Didn't you just switch the tail light housings? -
Are you sure that kit won't allow it? Can't you cut out the tabs that the knob posts fit thru? Thats the way I've seen these plastic kits work. I know some dudes here have put new radios in the older 81s. I have a loyale with a slightly different problem. Mine sticks out two inches- I need to make a ring like 2.7 Loyale's. His looks nice.

When you replaced the pump, how was the seals? I hear of micky's ears being sucked in. There is a very inventive fix for that floating around here. Calls for drilling the hole bigger, then inserting a very short length (almost just a ring) of copper pipe to prevent the sucking in of the seal. Is your car really idling at 300rpm? I think that should be up around 600-900rpm. Has your idle changed at all? And how much do you trust your psi guage? Those go sometimes too. Try swapping the sender from that GL. Or put in a "real "psi guage. Just don't route that cheap plastic tubing into your car! It WILL heat up and pop. Try to use copper tubing. -
Havn't we seen this a couple times before? Why would't auto makers include this technology in the cars in the first place? Or put this mod out themselves? Awnser? Probably either doesn't work, or hurts your engine in some way. Or perhaps kills epa rules? You say you think it fools the ecu into thinking the car is running cooler? Basically choking it a little? Maybe a little more power, but more MPG? Do you think that would cause the car to run a little warmer than normal?

oil pump regasketing
Milemaker13 replied to ivantruckman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I did it with out removing the radiator. Risk of damage, just be careful. Maybe place a sheet of cardboard in front if your worried. Coolant can be expensive and is dangerous on your shop floor (and floor drains!) Good luck- Its a pretty easy job- Once you're done And yes, there is alot of info in older threads- search up oil pump or pump seal. -
A little milk on my oil cap.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!! You all definatly put my mind at ease. Phew! I'll finally sleep tonight! Just like the parking light switch, there to freak us out! I really appreciate everyone chiming in! -
So, putting in a quart last night, I see I have some moisture in my crank case. I am hoping it has just come from the snow and being bogged out couple weeks ago. I hope it is not coolant leaking in. That would suck. It doesn't smell much like coolant- I'll have to check it out better today. I guess an oil change either way, huh?

What do you do to keep the shell together? Clamp or something? -
I buried my 92 loyale in a snow drift that was maybe 18-24" deep. Went all the way across the road in the middle of a field. Probably 50 feet long. Looked like a couple inches of hardpack, just like the other drifts that day. We hit that doing probably like 40mph. WHITE OUT! When we stopped, we were still on the road and the motor was dead. Snow packed in and jumped my T-belt. No way to get under to fix it there, blowing crazy snow storm. I belive if it had stayed running, I'd have gotten out. Oh yeah, I was pulling an empty rowboat trailer at the time. That bar axle really does a good job of plowing snow! And I am running cheapo $20 tires!

The truck is a 351 8 cyl w/ a 4 speed. No granny 1st, but low 4wd. And hi 4wd and 2wd high. Hubs are smooth, no problem. Not to high reving on the highway. I was doing 70 and such with no problem. No CRAZY gas useage. Not a soob either :-\ . Its not bad, but who am I to argue Awesome welding truck! -

Well, the wife hates the big ford. To big, ugly and old lookin! Women! Anyway, its for sale as a "parts car" on ebay now. We'll see how it goes. Anybody here interested? Look on ebay under parts cars 78 ford f-250 4x4. Should come up. Let me know if any of us is interested. -
Hey all- I probably am just being dumb, but I wanted to tell you about the trade I just made. I liked it. I saw an 85 wagon for sale the other day. I've been looking for a truck to pull my boat as I am tired of borrowing and last time I rented a truck- F*** that! So I found a truck that and the guy wanted to trade for something smaller (better MPG) I asked about and he accepted the soob wagon + $200 cash. So I went and bought this wagon for $250 and drove it to kenosha from chicago. I traded the guy and drove home in the oversized beast! Then of course this morning it wont start, but hey! Thats why I didn't want to trade my loyale for the truck in the first place. I need a soob! Now I have both. And the guy sold his car. And the other guy traded his truck for a smaller car. EVERYBODY WINS!!! This truck, a 1978 Ford F-250 4X4 with a 4 speed and a flatbed. I think it is lifted a little in a homemade way. I havn't really looked at it yet. What a pig! :-p :-\ PS- I am going to tell the guy to come here for advice. I didn't actually see him, his asst. did the deal. He will need CVs in a couple thousand miles or so. Just starting to click in tight parking lot turns. 83,000 miles Does anybody know any old ford websites or forums like this one?

Hey Gloyale! Nice to know there is a few of us around here! Also McBrat in Iowa. If I end up needing parts, I'll let you know. I still like the covers off, even though it obviously did me in this time. I bet I could have gotten out of the drift if the car ran. I am thinking about a set of deflectors or a belly pan to prevent the snow from entering. We'll see- I'll probably just leave it be

Front Wheel Bearings
Milemaker13 replied to Major Lazy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Weird... When I did my half shafts, they slid right out- no effort at all. When I put them back in, the china axle slid in just the same but the reman had to be pulled thru (I know, they only had one of each???). Whats the deal with some axles being more press fit than others? :-\ -
92 loyale spfi ea82, resealed pump recently, no leaks. 121k +/-80 cold start +/-45 hot cruise +/-15 hot idle I did the seafoam not so long ago, and it seems like my hot pressures have dropped slightly. Perhaps closer to 40 and 10 psi hot.

Well, Finally the crazy week is over. I got the loyale into the garage, got the belts where they are supposed to be and then she wouldn't start at all!! I pulled the cap and Hey! The center electrode pin was melted right off! Wonder if that had to do with the lack of power So, new cap= new power! Rotor was fine. I drove to work today so I can park it inside and melt out some snow and ice
-
Hey All! Got the Loyale runnin! It was the T- belts. The snow musta jammed in there to cause the Driver side tensioner to push back. I re timmed the belts best I could out there, and she fired right up!!! I was amazed! It is totally lacking power, but I did it all half rump roast in the cold. Drove it on to the trailer. I also seen some other hoses ect that need attention. Bluto, I agree. Everyone said we didn't need em. Well, I still think it better w/ them gone. Much faster! But I still want to look at a belly pan for the engine bay! Hey bluto- Where ya at?
