  1. Cool guys. I'm thinking that the timing belts slipping a couple teeth sounds good, they are runnung no covers. Also water in the disty. I'm going out there in the desil w/ a trailer, so if I can't fix it right there, I'll just have to tow it home. What about all this snow entering the engine bay? That sucks. I want to come up with a set of skid/ deflector plates to prevent this. I have the basic skid plate now, but obviously it doesn't do much here. These plates I want may have to come off for summer driving, but heat shouldn't be an issue in winter, probably help some! I'm leavin now, but keep the ideas comming- I'll need 'em when I get back!
  2. A little help and advice. We were cruising along today when we hit a deep drift all across the road. Long too. Anyway, we got pulled out by some hillbilly kids drinkin beers, but the car still wont start. At first, the engine compartment was PACKED with snow. All around the crank and t belts and all. I cleared that out pretty good. The engine spins fine, but won't even try to fire. I checked the air cleaner to see if it was packed, it looked fine. We tried a little ether, still no fire. That leads me to belive I have no spark. I have never seen ether NOT fire. It is a 92 loyale 4x4 5mt. Any help or advice, I will go back out there in a day or two to try and get it runnin. The storm is crazy now. We were kinda worried until those kids showed up
  3. To hold the EA82 camshaft sprockets while doing the t-belts I simply drilled and tapped my jack handle for two 1/4-20 bolts. They are spaced to fit into the holes on the sprocket, and stick thru the jack handle far enuff to engage the holes. Works great. Not sure about the 4x4 electrical box cover version of this tool, but I have heard of it. ***SEE POST # 30 TOOLS "I" AND "J" *** These are basically what I am talking about.
  4. I am 65 miles west of Chicago. Definatly want to get together with all the local soob nuts!
  5. Are these decals still avalible? I would like a USMB window sticker. A http://WWW.ULTIMATESUBARU.ORG banner for the rear wagon window would be cool as well. How can I get my hands on a couple of these?
  6. What about running too lean? Everyone knows thats bad. Learning to fly, the rental planes are rented "wet". You don't pay for fuel, only rental. This keeps inexperianced pilots from leaning the mixture too much in an effort to save fuel. Thus causing undue wear on the engines. Too lean may save fuel, but at what expense?
  7. DANG! Sucks to be that guy! Personally, I have never found anything on the web more helpful than you guys-
  8. I had a $200 4x4 Chevy LUV, which is very similar to the curior. The LUV was actually an Isuzu. Everything under the hood was Isuzu. That truck was a little tractor, and I sold it 12,000 miles later for $350 w/o putting a penny into it! Boy, the stories that go along with that one
  9. Interesting... I used to put the stuff in my f250 work truck, because the car guys said it was good. Bring an old motor back, blah blah blah. I don't know, never seemed to hurt anything. That was awhile ago. Now I think that if you want thicker oil... put in thicker oil, not a thickener in your oil. Cars, trucks and tractors have run for a hundred plus years on regular Dino oils. Thats proven performance
  10. If you're nearby- go and check it out. $200 can't go too far wrong! Check compression and make sure it drives. Is it stick? 4X4?
  11. Most of our cars should match front and back. This must have been a custom setup. I understand that in a straight mud runner, a faster front axle will help pull the front around where you want to go. But if it was locked on pavement, it would fail in short order. Did you guys swap it back or something?
  12. Hey Speedworthy, Not to nag, and I know you said you need new bolts, but your washers are placed wrong. Each bolt should have 2 washers. One flat (regular) washer on the bottom, and the lock (split ring) washer on the top. The split washer goes up against the bolt head, not the bracket. Look around the engine, check out other bolts and washers, you'll see. Sorry, just trying to help. Your setup will loosen very quickly with the engines vibration.
  13. This may be a dumb suggestion, but it got me once on this car. Have you checked the tension of the alt. belt? I bought a new battery before I realized it was a loose belt. Same basic simptoms.
  14. This happens in the loyale when in 4wd on pavement. Had mismatched tires to begin with, but still does it a little. 4WD off road or snow only:burnout:
  15. Now I'm curious too. I'd imagine you were checking cylinder depth, considering the new rebuild. I'd try the grabber tool, sounds good.
  16. Quick question- I have an auto 84 2wd GL sedan. EA81. Does this have hydro lifters ya think?
  17. How well did that work for you? Did you vaccume the system? I was reading that it may be ok to add that kit w/o doing much else. I have even been told it would be ok to just add some 134a, nothing else. I think I want to add some ester oil and 134a and see if it works. If not, probably have a buddy vac the system after I flush it as I have read to do.
  18. I did it last summer to determine why the ac didn't work. It would'nt come on at all. I found the switch near the top of the "accumulator can". I think that is what it is called. When I jumped it (the low PSI switch) the system seemed to operate as it should, but no cold air. I have not run the system like this, only tested momentarily. I am pretty sure it needs a charge, I want to add dyed 134a to see where it may leak. Do I need to change o-rings ect for the 134a? Ever hear of this "freeze 12" stuff?
  19. Just wondering what is included with these "retrofit " kits sold at the auto stores. R12 to 134a. Some of the bottles say they are compatable with R12 and the oils. Can I just add 134a, or do I need a retrofit kit? Does it have new parts?
  20. I wonder the same thing on my 92 Loyale. I can't tell where it may have leaked, but it is empty. If I jump the PSI switch, it will run. But never gets cold. I want to use some 134a recharge cans to charge it up. Use a dye type and look for any leak all summer. The cans say compatable w/ R12. Is that true? Or how about this "freeze 12" stuff? Where can I find that? Thanks
  21. I finally seen another loyale round my place last night. It was snowin a little, so Mary and I took the soob out for a cruise. When we passed the soob waiting at a crossroad, all I could do was give 'em a little toot! But over all, I think I kinda go with the finger shot. Ya know, a little gun with your finger and thumb. Little clickey action on the thumb. Usually same on the bike. Over all, I think we can all agree- Any wave from one soob to another is all it takes!
