Pointers on swapping D/R into a Loyale.
Milemaker13 replied to Milemaker13's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I don't think I would pop it into low on much of a fly... maybe that 5 mph rolling. Into 4 hi on the fly all day long, not so much with low. In my opinion... -

I searched and read a post talking about the N switch. Won't affect running, but throw a code. I think they are using a "cruise control switch" on the clutch as N. Clutch out, in gear- clutch in, N. I figure I'll put in some sort of switch, one way or another. -

Thank you! That is the stuff I am looking for. Someone on the board here has one in Ohio for me I think (hope!). Says it has only 85k on it. That would be practically new! Just to be sure... I want one from an 85-89 GL wagon right? Would anything else fit properly? Does anything else have the 1.59 gear ratio? -
Haha! Me too I hope it works well. I may have found one w/ 89k on it. Practically brand new!

I have. I have . Considered and weighed them both. I very much agree w/ you on every point. But my real world does involve towing and some light offroading (mostly mud). I am really only starting to gather the juice to do it up! Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the 4 hi in the DR going to be *almost* exactly like driving the pushbutton in 4wd? Then we will also have lo. Can the DR still be shifted in to 4 hi on the fly? That is important to me. -

That all sounds good. No vac assy on top, external bar running the length. Is that bar a moving part, perhaps the DR shift link or something? Oh, can you help me find one out there by you? I see lots out there in ads, but I'm in Chicagoland. Some guy 10 miles from my work crushed a dr wagon a few months ago! D'Oh! -

Bump. Sorry, I just want some more info on how to Identify the proper trans when I see it. And be able to describe the difference to people over the phone. I have seen many "subaru 5 spd transmission $100" and stuff like that at parts yards. But how do I ask them if it is from an 85-89 GL wagon? Thats the one I want, right? It'll have the 1.59 low range and bolt right up to my ea82? Is there any others that will work like this? Thanks again... -
Not sure what to do

Hey ! Welcome to the board! Nice car! What transmission does it have? Bet its fun drivin over there! -
Hey guys, Finally I want to modify my soob. Nothing drastic, I just want a Dual Ranger in the Loyale. 92, pushbutton 5 spd. I was reading a lot about it, seems it will be a piece of cake. Everyone says it should swap right in. I really want the 1.59 dual range 5 speed in there. Does anyone have any pointers for me to think about? Oh, and does anyone have a dual range 5 speed for me? Where to find one? What should I expect to pay for one? Thanks in advance guys!

Have been looking at this conversion for a little while now... I'd really really like to have the 1.59 D/R for my 92 loyale too... Does anyone have one to sell me? I have a 92 loyale pushbutton 4x4 5 spd. How much should a trans like that cost me?
-
Too high of a price?
Milemaker13 replied to SubaruWagon87's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sounds insane. Paid $400 for my 4x4 5spd 92 loyale w/ 107k. Nice body & interior. If it has new drive line parts and a rust free body, sure $1800 I guess. But, it would have to be nice. Have one of these guys close to you take a look at it w/ you. Hey, what do you mean about being in (or near) WI vs west coast? Rust? Guess so. Ours would be rotten by 300k... -
Dealing with Subaru Obsession

Its kinda a joke here too. I just sent her the link put up earlier, about addiction. That is funny stuff. She likes to drive my loyale, but I am always pointing out the "little things" as she drives. Roll the window down a quarter inch or so before you close the door; the lights are already on; the ticking is normal; Just go- F*** 'em if they can't take a joke; Go easy on it; Go!Go!Get on it!; So on and so forth. She can't take it! Haha. I wonder if I can get that little red auto wagon back for her? -
+1000 Never put anyone in between!

Yeah, perhaps some dirt or a rock behing the rotor backing plate. You're probably right, she was just getting a cramp! -

I should bring the loyale to the recycle guy to weigh me. I am curious... -
You're crazy! Unless it cost you far less than list!

Can Anyone give advice on a brake job?
Milemaker13 replied to beataru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Your caliper pistons arn't now leaking are they? Perhaps you tore some thing up while turning the pistons w/ channellocks, probably not though. I'd look for leaks around your work areas. Other than that, sounds like a leaky master. -

Dudes- That brake tool should be avalible at any napa or elsewhere. Sometimes its a small cube with nubs on all side for different cars. I've seen some OEM tools that looked like a fork. Its a little tricky (especially if you are unaware of it!) but not bad at all. Couple bucks. I'd never pay let anyone touch my car, especially the brakes, except me. Free help is usually appreciated Other people tend to screw stuff up and not give a crap. -
Just follow the directions on the can. 1/3 can into the gas tank. 1/3 can into the engine oil. 1/3 can down the carb or throttle body. When you put it into the intake, go slow at first, then dump it in to kill the motor. Wait about 5 min, then restart. Lots of smoke and crap. Drive it around some, then change your oil. Thats basically it! Search up Seafoam here or on the web- you'll get lots of advice and videos! Watch for some fuel leaks to start, if you have any old fuel lines, ect.
-
I agree. I like seafoam. I've done my 92 loyale. I belive I did that 84 you picked up as well. It seems to help clean things up. I have heard many cases of it causing leaks, but it is most likly existing leaks that got cleaned out also- allowing leaks to form. New lines, ect will fix any of that.
