  1. So, I am putting the oil pump back together. The pully has a guide ring on either side to keep the belt tracking properly, I assume. The one that is next to the pump body fell off, and in its time freewheeling, managed to enlarge itself just a little. I got it back on there, but I don't think it's goin to stay. Should I leave it there, basically knowing it will fall off, Or just take the little bastard off? The belt can't really go anywhere, because the pump is right there, and I am concerned that the little ring may get jammed up at some point, ripping up the pump anyway. What do you all think? Has anybody (or everybody) experianced what I am talking about? 1992 EA82 Loyale 4x4 wagon. 117K. Thanks!
  2. I am going to use the 32mm socket on the backside (engine side) of the pump to support it while it tapped the rotor out- into the socket. Pretty common. My cam and main seals look OK, that is, they arn't leaking. I havn't located new ones yet, so I am not changing them now. I am leaving off the t-belt covers, and I am not sure if my new t-belt kit will arrive in time, So I may be putting the old ones back on. They look pretty good. So going back in after a little while is expected here:-\
  3. Hi Everybody! I was doing t-belts, water pump, and oil pump seals. I have the oil pump out. Looks good. I want to replace the shaft seal. I got the nut off the shaft, now I need to get the pully off the shaft. I have a 32mm socket ready to use. Was going to tap the shaft out of the pully. Sound good? Anybody have an opinion here? Thanks!
  4. The book says to use the rear cover to aid in timing. What about this if we leave the covers off? I want to leave mine off, they are a pain in the butt.
  5. No, the kit does not come with it. Does anyone know where I can find the main seal, the cam seals and the o-rings for the seal plates? What about the O-ring for the water pipe on the pump? Can I just find the right size from the auto store or hardware store? Are they special material?
  6. How true... Like my car here on Christmas! :drunk: What can anyone tell me about changing the main seal?
  7. What can you tell me about the camshaft end seals and the main seal jobs? Is is nessesary? How do I get the seal out without disassembling the motor?
  8. 5000 miles with no problem? It fit up good? Sounds OK to me, I'm not sure what to think about the price differance though. I just ordered my kit. Thanks.
  9. Want to know if anybody has used a timing belt kit brand name PCI. Prefered conponents inc. I found the kit for my loyale for $59, compared to $250 or so at various auto stores. Thanks for any insite!
  10. Yeah, I think I'll do the T- belts , idler, and both tensioners. They come in a kit most of the time. Auto parts stores want like $250 for the set. Thats crazy. I found the set on ebay for only $50 plus $9 shipping. Obviously I want to buy that one, but is it gonna suck? I dont want to install it to have it fail in a month. Has anyone used this set off of ebay? The brand is PCI, prefered conponents inc.
  11. Hey guys! Well, finally had a problem w/ the Loyale. Seems the shaft and pully the engine fan spins on granaded itself lastnight. I don't know what that shaft is. Is it the water pump? Coolant was leaking bad (I could smell it) at the same time. I want to go over the front of the engine, replace water pump, t belts, idler pullys, reseal the oil pump. Is there any thing I am missing? Any advice would be helpful. This will be the first time I actually work on the engine in this car. Thanks!
  12. I am not an expert, but that sounds very high. What are you gonna be into it for after putting in a new motor? Also, research the justy's reliability, especially the transmission. CVT? I have heard bad stuff 'bout them! Try to lowball her w/ 2 $100 bills. Then walk away... There was a D/R hatchie for sale here a few days ago, nobody here wanted to give $600 for it. It was running ,driving, climbing trees!
  13. Oh hey, I'm sorry- I thought we were talking about differences between the GL and loyale here. My mistake.
  14. Thats a good idea. High R's and low speed does wonders to heat up a motor quick!
  15. Really? I know front wheel drive is pretty good in snow (round here) most of the time... But I know the Loyale straitens up quick when I push that button! I will probally list it on ebay, I have had success there before. Just sucks paying $80 plus to sell a car. What is the deal to list here? So, I stopped there today and jumped the car. Tried it once, only got a stumble. A quick shot of either, she fired right up and ran no problem. Just a little rough. I know it needs a new battery, and a fresh tank of gas. I plan on checking out all of the tune up points for this car in hopes of finding the roughness. What all should I check? Tomarrow (I hope) I will drive this up and down the street to see what it is really doing. I hope it is a quick fix!
  16. Thing is, I already have a 92 4x4 Loyale 5 sp. that I love. Pretty good shape too. This one I think I'll make running and sell it on the street. Any running car around here can get at least $500... More if it looks ok and does well MPG wise. Thats the plan anyhow. I assume that we are all on the same page as far as the AT goes- Garbage ( just like the rest of 'em!) But it is gonna stay there for the new owner. And 2wd? No real use as a soob, its just a car... Right?
  17. Hey, read around last night, talked to a guy or two, But I was wondering what everybody can tell me or has to say about an '84 2wd GL sedan. I have some papers. Say it has 1800 engine, thats about it. Alist of options like power windows & mirrors, cruise console, rear rack, special paint, ect. 3 speed automatic trans. Serial # JF1AW43B7EC320354. I just got it from a buddys dad who says it won't do more than 45mph. Don't know why. What do you guys think. I am going to go there today and put my loyale battery in it and see if it starts or whatnot. Thanks!
  18. Indestructable? Better than the 92 Loyale I'm drivin?
  19. Yeah- Jusk kiddin:slobber: Nice car! I am new here- Hi. Thats how I would like my car to look!
  20. Hey all- I was looking at all of these guys big 'ol trucks on this boating forum, and I decided to ask if anybody was drivin a subaru on the beach. These are all east coast guys, driving on the beach in expaditions with a cooler and poles in a bumper rack. They say the beach ruts would get us. What do you all think? I am in chicago, so I cannot really test this out. I know some of you are in NY and NJ. I think I would try if I was out there. I'm drivin a 92 Loyale. Come on guys!
  21. Speaking of an '84 GL ... I just acuired one today. I belive it is automatic. 2WD. What can you guys tell me about it? Is it a good car? MPG OK? This one has issues I am still checking into.
  22. So, I can try the extra ground wire to the wiper motor. This box under the colom... Can it be checked out? Can it be replaced? The wipers work even with out this box?
  23. I have a similar problem w/ my Loyale wipers. They return just fine, but sometimes won't go up all the way. They get stuck before half way up. If they make it past halfway, they will go fine. If not, I gotta bump them using the mist (single swipe). The low and hi work fine, but intermitent does this. Usually if I want intermit. wipers, I just use the "mist" button every time I need a wipe. Is there anyway to fix this problem? Will lubing up all of these parts help? It seems that whatever relay isn't giving enuff power in intermit. mode.
  24. Heck yeah! You can fit alot in the back. We tow the rowboat around with ours. In the back is the old 10hp outboard, 6 gal. gas can, med. size cooler, life jackets, oars, bags and boxes of picknic stuff, tool bag, ect, ect, ect!! It does everything I need. I even use it to do side jobs. Fits a 6 ft. ladder inside, still able to use both front seats. Longer ladder? ROOF RACK! I tell you, its a little tugger. Mine is 92 w/ tilt and power windows, pushbutton 4x4 manual 5 sp. I paid $400 w/ 107k. Still new!
