September 13, 200718 yr There has been alot on here about using the spfi from the ea82 on an ea81. Has anyone ever put an ea81 in an ea82 car with spfi. I have an 87 GL Wagon that has the spfi ea82. I hate that engine! I want to go with an ea81 in that car. I want to keep the spfi. This ever been done by anyone out there?

BUT my understanding is that the ea82 is a bit wider than the ea81... People normally ask the opposite question, OHC into an OHV car, and I know THAT swap is somewhat difficult. The other way around is a thought that has interested me many times, and as far as I could gather, it seems feasible. My mouth is WIDE open everyone.. am I gonna have to stick my foot in??
September 13, 200718 yr it'll work fine. EA82 car & SPFI + EA81 engine = success... It'll be a cake swap and you'll have more room.... But why?
September 13, 200718 yr Author Umm... I hate the EA82. I hate timing belts, I hate head gasket issues, and i like bottom end torque, and I like the cam in the center of the engine where God intended it.
September 13, 200718 yr It will work perfectly... Read the write-up for the conversion here and ignore everything that talks about wiring. You'll only need to do the intake manifold and disty mods.
